I’ve had my 2020 Palisade for about 4 months now. It’s Beckett Black. Have kept it spotlessly clean and have ceramic coated it 3 times. It’s clean but it doesn’t have the “wet shine” I would expect for a new car. Upon close examination, I’ve noticed the entire surface is complete orange peel. Has anyone noticed this condition on their vehicles. This is my 9th Hyundai, including two (2) Genesis models. This Palisade appears to have the worst paint job ever. Would buffing help? Is this a Hyundai issue? Would they do anything about it?

Is the customer expected to do this on a new car. I’ve also clay barred it before ceramic coating. Surface is smooth, but completely orange peeled. If the peel is under the clear coat, would fine wet sanding damage it and make matters worse? I will contact the dealer, but was looking for other’s thoughts. Is it just my Palisade?

If you feel it’s bad enough to warrant the dealership looking into it then take it in. I don’t have it on mine. If you’ve had it it 4 months I don’t know why you’d need to ceramic coat it 4 times. A ceramic coating should last at least 6-12 months or so for DIY. No clay bar or waxing is going to cure orange peel. That’s a defect that needs to get knocked down during the painting process. You’re only real DIY option to try to remedy that yourself is to try and work it on a polisher, but I’d not mess with it on a new car. Just take it in and see what they say.

I coated 3 times to see if the shine would improve. Didn’t. I’ll contact Hyundai. Thanks

Did you inspect upon purchase? Four months have past..you may be out of luck,if the only complaint is orange peel.
My limited paint finish/ gloss quality seems fine after ceramic and wax several times.
IMO the paint is thin, but finish acceptable.

I thought my palisade was clean until I noticed other vehicle brands had real deep gloss finishes. I couldn’t detect any orange peel on them. All my other Hyundai’s had better finishes. Has Hyundai changed paint? Are waterborne paints now being used for EPA requirements? Years ago we did everything in lacquer. No clear coating then.

Water based auto paint started being used in the mid 80s. All auto companies now use it and as far as I know that’s been the case for some time. I do believe that the clear coats are still solvent based though.

Are you sure it was the paint?
Several brands of ceramic coating can orange peel if multiple layers are applied to soon
Also different brands of ceramic coatings do not get along well.

I’ve been using the updated Hydrosilex brand. The earlier blend would separate and coagulate in the bottle. Shelf live was not good. Deteriorated after a year. Shaking would not reblend. I’ll try another brand next time. Any suggestions?

I'd be afraid to try a different brand as it might react with what you used and cause more problems.
Try going to the dealership and ask them what is going on with the paint.
Don't say anything about you applied ceramic coating, just you are concerned about the way the paint looks

Carpro CQuartz worked well for me. But I have to say I’m really liking the new a turtle Wax stuff as it’s easy to apply. By the way you’re not supposed to keep applying ceramic coats. Usually it’s just one, or up to two a day or so after the first application. Then it’s just maintenance like using wash/detailing spray made for ceramic to keep it going.

Thanks for your ideas guys. I thought you could apply the ceramic like Meguiars Quik Detailer
