Anyone know what this piece of display data means?

I’m sure it’s something painfully obvious and I’m just being clueless. But what does the “auto” followed by a distance number mean on the bottom of the map portion of the display indicate? Sometimes it says a different distance. But it usually reads a static number for a long portion of a trip. We keep noticing it and it’s puzzling us every time.

Sometimes it says a different distance. But it usually reads a static number for a long portion of a trip. We keep noticing it and it’s puzzling us every time.
It means the zoom level is set to automatic and that it is currently set to 300ft. In auto mode, the display automatically adjusts the zoom level based on your current speed. In manual mode, you do, by using the +/- buttons or the tune knob if I remember correctly.
 
It's the zoom. As you get closer to an intersection, the map automatically zooms in, for instance.
