Hello, I am new here…we put a deposit on an SEL hyper white FWD early September. Dealer said there is no “guarantee” we will get that? He said if that car is made, it will go to the dealer with the deposit before others. Has anyone done this and if so how long did it take? Thanks in advance! Also, it seems like all the dealerships with 100 mile radius have lots of Calligraphy trims but very few SELs. Curious as to why?

Looking at the Hyundai website, you are correct that there are not many SELs in stock or arriving soon near you. This is probably because for 2020-2022 models there was a shortage of Limited and Calligraphy trims, so for 2023 they probably starting making more of the high end trim levels and fewer SEL's.
But I noticed that he 2023 SEL with Premium Package now has all the same electronic and infotainment features of the Limited (unlike 2020-2022), so it is probably more popular in 2023 than in previous years. Plus with higher interest rates and recent stock market decline, people have less money to spend on the higher trim levels.
Hyundai Motor America has to place their order plans with the Hyundai Korea plant pretty far in advance, because each of the trim levels needs different part from suppliers. Changing exterior paint colors is easy, but a large percentage of the interior trim pieces are provided by suppliers who need to know the volumes for each trim level far in advance. So you might want to look at a Limited unless you want to wait awhile.
