Two Counterintuitive Controls

I've had my Limited for about a month now, not many miles yet but I really like this car just the way it was made. (No badges for me friends!!)

BUT the setup of a couple of interior controls bug me just a little bit.

First, there is the Shift Button arrangement. Reverse is at the top; and Drive is at the bottom. Should be the other way around in my way of thinking.

Then, there is the Parking Brake control. One pushes it in to go on your way and you pull it out to set the parking brake. Should be the other way around in my way of thinking.

Both seem counterintuitive but I suppose there is no way to modify them. Maybe the 2025 model will fix them!!!

I tend to agree with you but, as was pointed out to me when I also posted about the shift setup, on a stick style shifter R is forward of D (which is all the way back). As for the e-brake, I think most mechanical e-brakes do have a lever that you pull to release and a pedal to step on to set, but the ones that have a handle/lever between the seats you have to pull up on it to set, and lower to release.

I like that the EPB gets set automatically when on an incline and when you can just shut engine off with the Start/Stop button without even going into park.

Not sure what kind of vehicle that is but I think we agree it's backwards on the Palisade. Right?

My Mercedes ML 350 was much the same with the little stick on the steering wheel pushed up to Reverse and down to Drive. Just seems graphically a bit weird on the Hyundai. You can take it off my hands for $50K though!!! :p

That particular one is a volvo, but it's the same as most every automatic transmission out right now (until you get to rotary dials, other push buttons, etc)...

It's just like the palisade. D is down and closest to the driver. R is up and furthest away.

You're correct. I give up!! Still feels a bit awkward for me. But I love the car and will get used to it.

It is actually arranged perfect in comparison to traditional automatic shift maps, but when viewed and actuated in button form, it throws the mind off. I really like it alot. Just hope being drive by wire, it continues to operate the way it should.
