Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

No doubt, was just surprised to hear a 2016 Ford Truck being used as a comparative to a near luxury halo-car for Hyundai as evidence of the wind noise not being an issue. Our comparison would be our 2013 Jeep GC and my Mother-in-law’s 2019 Cherokee, both of which are quieter than the Palisade. The 2013 now has 93K miles on it, btw.
I had a 17 f150 platinum for a while. It was amazing how luxurious and quiet it was.

It was also a lot more expensive than my palisade.

My wife's passport is actually what I would think would be a pretty reasonable comparison. From the c pillar forward, it's just a pilot in disguise so it's a direct competitor.

All trucks worth buying cost more than a Palisade IMHO. My neighbor has a new Dodge Ram and it’s a limousine and vault-like quiet.

That's kinda what I was thinking. My F150 is amazingly quiet. Road trips in that thing are a dream. Twice as quiet as the Explorer my Palisade replaced. I wonder if wind noise in a strong cross-wind isn't a common issue for many vehicles.

That’s not been my experience over the last 20 years. My Palisade though is pretty bad with a low frequency resonance + wind noise.

That low frequ not resonance is bad, I can deal with a few whistles and wind noise if it’s not that bad

I just got back from a short drive. Heard a light whistling at appx 18mph. Plugged my finger into the lower left corner of the window where it meets the door frame and top of the door. There is a tiny gap in this corner and by plugging it the whistle stopped. Maybe I should try using the foam rope to see if that works to stop my whistle.

Has everyone checked to see if they already have the foam/sponge fix yet, especially newer owners? I am just curious how many Palisades already have this done, and if that is the reason it is tolerable for many on here now. I have that fix, and while it is not what I expect as a permanent repair, it does work effectively for us as a bandaid for the time being. Attached pic is where the foam is inserted. That is at the leading edge nearest the A-pillar, in between the door panel and the side mirror. Adjacent to the window channel.

Is it possible to post another pic a little further out to better see the location? Thanks very much

Yep. My AWD Limited's foam fixes were already there on both my driver's and passenger's windows. Not much wind noise (none at all below 60 MPH). Build date Nov. 7, 2019. Delivered to dealer and purchased Dec. 23. That said, if Hyundai comes up with a real fix, I'll get it done.

Same fix late November build...that's the miracle cure for wind noise..cheap. easy..and if you have wind noise or it gets worse, the response will be its normal...

I also added the 3/8” foam caulk sealer(post#855)from the A pillar to the B inside the small ‘U’ shaped channel on the bottom of the window. You can lower the window and stuff the foam inside the channel. I had the small black foam/sponge piece(from the factory)that was inserted into that channel next to the a pillar so the foam I stuffed in there covered that up. It stopped a slight whistling that developed at higher speed. My build date was 10/23/19.

Is the foam rope visible when stuffed into the bottom window channel?

You would have to have to hold your head over the channel and look down to see it. It’s not noticeable from the side.
I only installed it on the driver side.

I ordered the black foam rope. I'll see about stuffing it in that channel you mentioned. thanks.
Save your receipt ..if it helps ..give it to your service manager for reimbursement...tell him your time and travel will be no charge..lol

after speaking to my local dealer service department and him telling me all the Palisades they've driven have wind noise so they deem it as normal unless Hyundai comes out with a new fix, I lost confidence in them finding a fix. Figure not having hope will not set me up for disappointment.

I'm not saying Hyundai won't come up with a fix, and I'm glad that they at least tried the first time around with the TSB, so I do believe they are still working on this, but I am not holding my breath. If I can buy some cheap foam that will cure my slight wind whistle, I will be happy.

Even with the wind noise my opinion of the Palisade hasn't soured. I sure hope it doesn't get worse like some of you owners have experienced!

They pulled the TSB in early February, right around the time the COVID-19 crisis started (particularly in Asia at that time). I don't think anyone should expect any update until the lock-downs ease up and they can actually start driving around to test a potential fix. I know South Korea didn't go in full lock-down mode, but part of the verification for such a fix will undoubtedly take part in the US, where the highest concentration of Palisades is located. And currently, the US is still very much on lock down.

This is what I installed in the window channels of my AWD Limited back in February. It's black, so you don't even notice it. It's also a rubber seal – EPDM Closed Cell Solid Foam Tubing, so it doesn't stay compressed. The Frost King gray foam and the foam backer rod fillers stay compressed, so they don't work as well.
