Just got our Palisade LTD AWD right as the lock down was starting, so haven't been able to do a lot of distance driving yet.

So just driving on local roads. It seems like the lane detection is a bit erratic. I don't see anything visibly different about the patches of road or markings where it drops out, so I was wondering what others are seeing with the lane detection.

When it is working it works well, but like I say it may work for short period of time and then drop out. But again the markings appear to be equally good when it fails to detect the lane markings.

Thanks,

I do know that it only works when driving over 40 mph. That is what you might be experiencing. Pay attention to the lane keep assist icon on dash display, when it turns free it is on!

Almost. When accelerating, it starts working at 40 mph. When decelerating, it works down to 35 mph. There's a built-in hysteresis.

Thanks, that's probably a good part of it since most of the roads locally are 35 MPH limits and curvy so usually going 35 most of the way. I'll pay attention next time we go out.

On the heads up display it shows the lines, if it cannot see them it doesn't show them

Yes I noticed that . It’s like the auto high beam, it kicks in at 35 mph, but will stay on down to 25 mph, and of course it dims when there is approaching traffic.

That's what I was noticing, I was thinking that it should just always show the lines if it can see them regardless of speed, but will do some testing to see if the problematic areas show up if going 40+ MPH. There's a couple of places where I can safely test that.

If it's not related to speed and there is no visible difference in the markings between where the car sees them and doesn't (and the lighting is the same) then I may have to take it in have it checked.

OK, confirmed that the indication of lane marking detection only happens when at or above 40 MPH and indeed drops when you hit 35 or below. In that case there are only a few cases where the vision system drops the detection which are understandable. For example when climbing a small hill which we have a lot of here in TN. Not talking about going up a long gentle hill just with very quick changes in the road elevation where the camera winds up pointing toward the sky. Once you crest the small hill then it detects the markings again.

That’s understandable. In my experience it is better than anything I’ve seen, except the Tesla. Took a spin in my friends teal and it was amazing, but the Palisade is the closest I have seen. Lincoln’s new models only steer for about ten seconds and then a warning comes up, it’s laughable!

Yes what little bit we've been able to drive on interstates it was very good. Haven't had a chance to drive enough where we can get comfortable with the adaptive cruise yet, that's just a matter of time.

And for all the hype about "auto pilot" it's made it a bit dangerous for people who think that Tesla really has an "auto pilot". It's best to view all of these options as just assist. We are really a long way from truly self-driving vehicles, except in very few well mapped areas. The AI will get there some day but unlikely in the near future, at least to the point that most people would consider it to be truly self driving from leaving your driveway to arriving at your destination without touching the wheel, brakes or accelerator pedal.

That said the Hyundai feature does work very well on interstates for sure and, once we can actually travel again, will make long trips a lot nicer.

I drove 400km on the highway and it was bliss. I forgot I was driving a couple times which is kinda dangerous

I live in Knoxville. I can definitely vouch for the topography in Tn. Welcome to the group by the way.

Over in the Sevierville area. Waiting for things to open up a bit more so we can take a real road trip to fully check things out.

Yeah, it’s a differential so that they don’t go on and off constantly

Cool, small World. The way traffic is around West Knox right now, you would think everyone just skipped over phase 1 and went directly to 3.

Yes, we've seen a steady uptick in traffic here. Also most of the campgrounds have seemed to be pretty full over the last few weeks.

Not sure I would want to be in an actual camp ground right now. Camping somewhere remote though, without a doubt.

Yes, campsites are pretty close together, so there is that. But from what we were seeing people were practicing social distancing. My wife and I may have actually had the virus earlier this year. The symptoms were definitely the same, except for it turning very nasty. But it was the worst bug we've ever had and the cough went on for many weeks after. The doctor said there was something new going around at the time. When we can we'll get tested for anti-bodies to confirm or deny. In the meantime taking extra precautions including masks, gloves, etc.

Alot of people are saying that, especially when looking back, hopefully that means you can't be infected again, but I think that is still being studied, and no one truly knows yet.

Yes, it's not for certain how much immunity you might get from having had the virus, and right now the antibody tests are a bit iffy in terms of false positives in some cases, which isn't good. So waiting for those tests to stabilize a bit more.
