This forum is a fine learning tool..
One observation, and conclusion, that I have made, why do so many owners do everything and anything possible to hide the fact that they own a Hyundai.

That's incorrect. But I fixed that for you :). Almost everybody knows a Palisade is a Hyundai, so that's not the case for most of us, I'd guess. I actually enjoy telling people it's just a Hyundai, when the 2 folks that have asked me so far thought it was a Mercedes and Infiniti.

It goes back to 1986 when Hyundai sold its first car in the US, the Excel model. In the early years Hyundai reliability was horrible, and Hyundai was the butt of frequent jokes from every late-night comedian. That is what caused Hyundai to eventually in 1999 to offer a 10 year - 100K mile powertrain warranty in a do-or-die effort to survive the US market. Fortunately, Hyundai started making better cars and people bought into the idea of extended powertrain warranty, but the brand still has a stigma for many people who are old enough to remember the early years.

Actually, the other thing that saved Hyundai in the early years was the Yugo was introduced in the USA about the same time. It was made in Communist Yugoslavia, and was even worse than the Hyundai.

Other Korean brands have made miraculous improvements, such as LG (which was originally called Goldstar). In the 1960's Japan had a reputation for junk products.

Some folks don't realize this, but after having a reliable and well built vehicle, a nice logo can make a HUGE difference. I'm sure many folks my age (59) can afford a more expensive vehicle than the Palisade, but I don't have to prove anything to anybody, so after owning several $100K+ vehicles in the past, and being disappointed by them, I'm back to being a value-driven buyer, even when I'm doing financially better than before. That's weird; I'm super frugal now. Maybe because I was forced to retire at 53 six years ago, and having spent a small fortune in experimental cancer treatments (still ongoing). Anyway, I looked into the GV80, but both my wife and myself actually liked the Pali better, so that's what I bought. But that freaking logo is just hideous. My wife wanted a Tesla, and the first thing she mentioned wasn't that it's electric, or that's beautiful, or very quick, but the LOGO. Ha ha. So I bought her one, and now she has a '21 too. And with my new Caliburn logos, I'm not embarrased of the Hyundai logo anymore, which are HUUUUUGE on the Palisade. At least Hyundai got it right with its Genesis logo. They need to change it, but if they're going to make it equally ugly, like the new Kia version, why bother. A logo has to have no freaking words :).
