Hey guys,

Thanks to this forum for helping me in the shopping process. My wife traded in her 2015 Acura MDX towards a new '21 Palisade Limited in Steel Graphite with black leather over the weekend. The MDX was a great vehicle but she wanted a little more room and captains chairs in the second row. Plus the tech has come a long way in 5-6 years (love the heads up display and blind spot cameras). We were also shopping a Ford Explorer ST but couldn't get the price anywhere near the Palisade. Ended up paying $46,400 out the door with TTL.

She had originally picked out Moonlight Cloud (Navy) but found it to be too dark/black. I liked white as well but her Acura was white so it was time for a change. Rainforest was a nice color but the dealership didn't have one in that color. I'm pleased with the chameleon character of steel graphite. It's a little gray, a little blue, a little green. A nice mix of all the colors we liked.

After I installed our two car seats, the first purchase was LEDs for the license plate and reverse lights. It came with carpeted floor mats, all weather mats, cargo cover, up seatback cargo tray, splash guards, and rear bumper applique which was a great bonus. Now I just need to decide if I wanted to switch for a weathertech mat for the cargo area or the Canadian OEM mat.

Would anyone want to buy the carpeted floor mats? I immediately took them out and installed the all weather mats.

We had the opposite color scenario: I liked the graphite SEL++ but she liked the rainforest Limited so, as the old joke goes, we compromised and got the rainforest. It’s still a pretty cool color with that chameleon effect you describe. It seems to change with the lighting and the angle.

I found a relatively steep learning curve with all the doodads and gadgetry, and a somewhat less than intuitive control screen, but we’ve mostly got it figured out by now. We’re consistently pleased with the level of luxury, utility and efficiency it provides for what it is. How do you compare the handling between this and your Acura? If i could improve one aspect of the palisade, I’d tighten up the suspension a bit as it tends to roll a little more than I prefer although it’s hardly objectionable.

Anyway, welcome to the club.

That was my main complaint when we test drove the Palisade compared to her 5 year old Acura. Lots of body roll and numb handling. Engine noise and acceleration wasn't as good either but the Palisade engine is sufficient for the application. Obviously hard to compare to the 400HP Explorer ST but that much power really isn't necessary for hauling around two kids. Her 2009 MDX handled amazing, could take highway on ramps at 70mph with ease. The 2015 had a different suspension setup tuned more for comfort but still handled well. Also the Acura SH-AWD system is something special. That being said, the Palisade blows the MDX out of the water as long as you're not trying to carve up some back roads. It is the perfect daily driver for a busy mom who doesn't want to sign up for minivan life. I enjoy driving it as well, but I've got a new Ford Bronco on order that I'm anxiously awaiting.

Our first real experience with Hyundai/Kia was a 2019 Sorento that we rented to drive to Florida for vacation. It surprised us how much we enjoyed it for the week. That set the foundation for being open to spending 45k on a Hyundai a couple years later once they upped the size and lux to compete in the 3 row category. Bonus points that they're not too common to see on the road so it's a unique vehicle for the time being. I'm sure that will change in the next few years. Her best friend just ordered a Telluride which I preferred slightly, but it's her car so her decision that we are both pleased with.

That uniqueness factored in for us too, as this year’s official vehicle at the pick-up line at our school by far is the Telluride, replacing last year’s family favorite taxi, the Highlander. I’ll admit the unconventional front end looked odd for a while but it quickly grew on me and I actually appreciate the non typical lighting set up more now. I occasionally get a bit of a GM vibe from the side view, but the Telluride, which we cross-shopped, still makes me think of a Range Rover knock off. Both are still sharp vehicles though, and I’m sure I’d be happy in either. At this point though I’ll give the edge to the Palisade.
