A detailer told me to get "Armor All Dressing" for my HVAC screen. I have googled that and it doesn't come up--but a bunch of other things do. Is there another name or something missing from the name?

Thanks so much!

armor all dressing? the old school milky stuff we used to put on tires but ends up making everything greasy stuff???? hahahaha

Oh, so nope? I have the scratched look, but can't feel scratches on my HVAC screen
. Can you tell me what to use to restore the shine or at least hide the "scratches", please?

sorry Julia, I really don't know what to do about that little HVAC screen. I have a couple of light scratches on it, and I have been avoiding touching it to make things worse. Let's see if others will have some suggestions. I just answered because of your question about Armor All. That would seem like a strange thing to use on a plastic screen, but then again, I've never tried it so who knows? I'm the guy using Pledge furniture polish on his tires so I guess anything is possible...

Thanks Raggedy, maybe I'll try Pledge! Who knows, it may do the trick!

I would never put armor all on anything. That stuff is junk. Outside of an actual piece of screen film or glass there’s nothing that’s really going to protect that screen from scratches. If it does get scratched then it would need to get polished/buffed out to remove them. My guess is it would be a similar process to restoring a faded or scratched headlight. No spray on product will just magically remove them. For just regular cleaning I use light passes with a soft microfiber towel. If it’s dirtier than normal I’ll use a dedicated cleaner that’s made for cleaning them like the ones they sell for tv screens. As far as Pledge goes I’d personally not recommended that. I’d stick with products designed for that so as to not risk anything that could possibly cause hazing.

Thanks, SunKing!

100% agree. Armor all is crap. I also wouldn't listen to anything a dealer that suggests using armorall has to say about anything in the future either.

Thanks so much, Saxman! I think I'll just quit obsessing. I'm going through different stresses settling my mom's estate and admit I'm hyper-focussed on an HVAC screen that really doesn't matter.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Clean it with something like a ZEISS lens wipe, or just eye glass cleaner.
Buy one of the infotainment screen protectors, cut a part out to fit HAVC screen
You will have plenty to make another if you cut wrong or it gets scratched.
The other route is to get one of the Ipad protecting screen coverings and cut that to fit
They are cheap on Amazon or ebay.
Don't use stuff like headlight restoring fluid's as they are made for glass not
materials the screen is made of. We used to use Easy Off bug repellent on headlights
it make the glass head lights look like new. Don't put on plastic like HVAC screen

Thanks, Gene! It's funny, I did use the Zeiss glasses cleaner on it. I can't even feel these "scratches", I just don't know what else to call them. I think I just want the sheen back but I guess that's not possible. I'm just being OCD neurotic. I realize it's not a big deal at all.

the HVAC screen is matte, so there is no sheen to it (unless you're calling the matte a "sheen").

I know what you're talking about as far as scratches go. I have maybe two long scratches which you can see at certain light angles. They're very fine scratches that can't be felt. I don't even try to feel them since breathing on this little screen seems to be able to cause scratches! You'll stop worrying about them eventually. (???)

hahahaha

I’m not sure how long it’s been since I’ve seen a glass headlight in the US lol. DOT mandates all cars in States have plastic headlights. The headlight resto kits are for the plastic ones. I’ve used the 3M one before and it works great. There’s really no way to use one inside a car though as it’s a bit of a mess. Unless I had a really scratched up screen I’d not mess with it outside of maybe cleaning it and putting a film or glass protector over it to prevent any scratches from getting worse and, or accumulating more of them.

I thought headlights were plastic. Since cell screens are glass, will a screen protector harm this plastic at all? Like if I hate it, can I just remove it with no harm done? Thanks!
