Middle console removal

Has anyone had the middle console a part? I am looking at installing a new brake controller for my trailer, and the controller has a function dial that i can run separate. I am planning on installing it in the tray where the drinks are as I can close it up and not see it. And have access to it while I am hauling.
Any input would be great as I have to drill a hold through it and run wires.
