Hi, I'm John from Portland, OR. I traded in my 2018 Subaru Forester XT last week for a 2022 steel graphite Palisade Calligraphy AWD. Probably the wrong time to buy a new car with the crazy markups, but I've done dumber things. Lol. This is the nicest car I've ever owned. I'm really impressed with it so far.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Congratulations on your brand new Palisade! Nice upgrade from the Subaru Forester! Which is already a nice SUV... I'm glad you found us. :)

Congrats! You're the second person I've seen (besides myself) that got a 2022 already! Looks good and I'm curious how it did out on the beach...

So far we have 1300 miles on ours with about 400 miles being around town before our first family road trip in it. Its been a great car so far and we even got about 24-25 mpg even with the rooftop box!! I would recommend some kind of leather protection coating since the seats are so light to prevent dye transfer or staining. I used Gyeon Leather Shield but there are some great options out there from ColourLock and CarPro as well!

Thanks for the suggestion for leather protection. I'll definitely check it out. I didn't realize how new the 2022 was when I bought it. The dealer had 2021s on the lot and 22s "around back".

The beach experience was interesting. It did ok on the beach. My Subaru with narrower 18in wheels handled much better. The Palisade was a little like it was on skis with the 20" wheels. Lol. It kinda drifted a bit but when I changed it to snow mode it made it through some pretty deep sand. We drove right by a Chevy traverse or something like that being pulled out of an area where it was stuck.

Greetings from Canada. I too have ordered a 2022 model in Moonlight cloud. Just curious to know if you had to pay above MSRP?

We ended up over MSRP to find the exact spec we wanted and also because we needed the new car by a certain date. Ended up at 3k over, but it was worth it to get exactly what we wanted. We also plan to keep the car for at least 7-10 years, so I fully believe it was worth it to meet our exact criteria. Some may disagree but getting what you want has a cost sometimes.

I had found some dealers willing to go at MSRP but they were a distance drive for me and couldn't guarantee a date that met our goals. And with the current boom in used car prices, I was able to offset that MSRP increase through my trade-in! Not sure that value will still be around in another month or two (which was the dates I was getting for MSRP cars).

Totally agree to your words. I was also in a similar situation. Wanted to get a new vehicle for the family. So ended up purchasing a new one. Glad to hear that you were able to find your dream vehicle. Calligraphy edition is totally worth for the price you paid. Wish you great days ahead...

Yes. There were only 3 2022 Calligraphies available remotely nearby and only one was AWD. So I ended up paying 7000 over MSRP. They gave me quite a bit higher than KBB for my trade in so I don't feel to bad about it. I was starting to feel uncomfortable when driving my previous car, afraid it would break down so considering the market we're in I'm fine with it.
