Power Tailgate battery consumption

I was reading through the manual and one particular instruction caught my eye and made me scratch my head:




I may be reading/understanding that wrong but it almost sounds like you shouldn't leave your tailgate open with the car engine off. For those that go camping, this is a common thing to do where the trunk is left open for a long period whether its for unloading purposes, kids hanging out in the back, or all other specific reasons. Is this a concern that my car battery can potentially die if I leave my trunk open for a long period?

Exactly. Has nothing to do with the tailgate itself, just interior lights which you can switch off.

Not according to what that says, however I wouldn't think there would be any other source, other than lights to draw on the battery with the tailgate in the up position. I would still be cautious though, unless you find out for sure.

As I'm writing this Im at my son's lacrosse practice, sitting in the back with the liftgate up and I noticed the dash display alerting the liftgate is up. I have my interior lights all off, so I'm wondering if that alert might be why.

I am guessing that along with interior lights that can be switched off that the computer is running more than normal monitoring the status of the doors and other alerting functions. Again just a guess.
