Hello folks-Well tomorrow (Saturday) I'm going shopping to look at both the Palisade and the Toyota Highlander. I was told that there is a 2021 model of the Palisade out now and I got a price of $43,249.61 out the door price for a SEL model and according to the dealer the 2021 SEL's come with the convenience and premium packages combined and offer more now. The highlander is an XLE model that I can get out the door for $39750.00 I don't mind spending a little more for a 2021 model Palisade but I'd like to ask owners if you could do it over again would you buy the same car again? or do you have any regrets or issues with the car?

I want to answer you, but don't know how the SEL with those packages compares to my Limited. I also haven't been in a Highlander for years. I personally love my Palisade. It's very comfortable! I love the transmission and the storage underneath created by that transmission. I use my automatic folding seats nearly every day. I have been way too focused this week on the HVAC screen - - which I will warn you scratches much too easily. If you can, have the protective film left on that screen if you buy a Palisade. Some people have had issues with windshields being damaged beyond repair (requiring replacement) for no obvious cause. Some people have a wind noise of unknown etiology. This has been fixed in some cases. There's occasionally an issue with vibration or something in the all-wheel drive vehicles. Some people have complained of a foul odor. Personally, my only issue thus far has been with the way too vulnerable HVAC screen, but other than that, I absolutely love this car! Hubby nearly always buys Toyotas. They are good cars, but I have never seriously looked at the Highlander, so I can't speak to that. Good luck!

I hope this helps!

Does the 3rd row matter to you?
Does value matter to you?

The Highlander 3rd row is for small children.
The Palisade value proposition can't be touched.

I took one long look at the 2021 Highlander and didn't even bother with a test drive.

Love my Palisade. Fixed my own wind whistle. Would absolutely buy it again. Have an order in for a Tesla MY, and I have put off delivery because I enjoy the Palisade too much right now to want to be distracted with another car.

I bet that Tesla would be fun though...

Drive them both and see which you like and which fits your needs better. If you’re planning on keeping the vehicle a very long time I still think, overall, that Toyota is a better bet. It’ll likely hold up better and retain more value. The Hyundai obviously comes with a long warranty though so there’s always that. I’ve not looked at the actual interior dimension numbers on both, but it feels at least that the Palisade is slightly roomier so if you’re regularly packing more than 4 in it then I think the 3rd row in the Palisade will be more convenient. I’ve had mine a few months now with only about 800 miles or so and I’ve not had any issues with my SEL. Maybe they’ve jacked the prices a bit for 2021 as mine has convenience, premium and sunroof and stickered just under $41K and I was out the door around $38K. Best of luck in your search...

You came to the right place for complaints and compliments for the Palisade. You can look them up for yourself.
IMO
Palisade more pleasing to the eye than Highlander. I feel Toyota is afraid to change to much, might screw up a good thing theory.
I have owned two Highlanders..two Tundras Etc. They were all trouble free and retained their value.
I feel Toyota service departments are much more professional as are the dealerships in general.
Cannot speak to the latest Highlander, but mine were much better regarding fit and finish.
Palisade is shipped from South Korea. That is costly, and that cost must be made up somewhere.
Good Luck

My 2020 with convenient, premium, sunroof package was about the same price. There was a comparable 21 around here, they where very similar in price. I was able to deal on the 2020 and was the color of wanted. They wouldn't budge on the 2021.
Base your prices off msrp in your area when comparing the 2 because Msrp will differ by location.
When people say they paid x amount isn't a good reference either. Did they undercutting your trade? Did you get a loan through hyundai? Did you pay with cash? Are there delivery, service prep fees? They all greatly affect the "out the price"
Covid kind of screwed the pricing up on the Hyundai for a short time (probably other manufacturers also) since it was a new model, decent value and made car & drive 10 best, people wanted one. Covid came along and stopped shipments, causing a shortage resulting in increased demand and higher prices. Not to mention receiving shipments of new 2020+2021's after things opened up.
I was able to walk down the price on the 2020. They tried hiding the 21`s that just came in way in the back lot, never mentioned it.
Anyway back to the point. It's all personal preference. Yes Toyota had higher resale value but you pay more for it from the get. I believe you MIGHT have less issues with the Toyota but have zero evidence to back this claim up except Toyota' track record. On the other hand Hyundai has a warranty. There are terrifs, taxes import fees ect that level the cost. Not necessarily a lack of quality. Although the .50¢ an hour probably doesn't buy the most skied labor. I've always assumed they cut down on there cost by dumping all the hazardous waste in the water due to lack of regulation. And paying $1 a day.

I went with the Hyundai because it was better equipped with more tech, warranty, cargo room w/power 2nd-3rd row seats and the interior felt like it was better quality with a little life in it.
The Highlander I used to have, the interior just felt like a plain / boring hard plastic shell.
The downside with the Hyundai is some minor annoyances with all the beeping and lights flashing every time a button is pressed. Sometimes I just wanna open the hatch without looking like a launch sequence. And that stupid giant H they put on it. Almost ruined the car with a giant H!

What did you do to fix your wind noise?

Just followed the lead from others on this site or the other Palisade owner site. It’s an easy fix actually. If owners have a wind whistle and can’t get the dealer to figure out how to fix it, then take matters into your own hands and do the fix using the insulation.

Just curious. Do you own a Palisade?

I want to answer you, but don't know how the SEL with those packages compares to my Limited.

I did a bit of digging... copy-and-pasted window stickers for each, then deleted stuff that was the same. There is a good bit of stuff you won't get with a loaded SEL that you would with a Limited. To the point that I've already decided instead of trying to chase a fully-loaded SEL to get the 8 passenger config, I'll take the limited and lose one seat. I figure the one extra can sit in the back, fold down the other half of the third row, pile luggage there, and hope for the best!

Maybe someone makes some kind of net or retainer for that situation?

Sorry, I don't know about a net, but feel surely something safe can be figured out. I love my Limited! The 2 people in the second row will love their seats--if they're all kids, maybe you can create a contest of which 2 "earn" the good seats, and if one kid isn't pleasant on the trip, they switch with the kid in the back! Honestly, having basically the "now caligraphy" limited from 2020, that digital dash is great! My 2 cents is get the limited!

Hello raggedy1!

Could you snap a picture of the rope insulation you installed?

Thank you!

here are the two threads that will show or tell you all you need. they are long threads so take some time and read all the posts and you'll see the two sizes of foam and the channels you'll need to address to cure this issue.
