search for new city for WEATHER only shows metropolitan areas

anyone know how to actually search for locations for weather? or are we limited only to those that pop up under the search bar?

Better yet, how do we switch the default state and city. Example, my limited displays weather info for a city in Connecticut. Meanwhile I live on the south shore of Long Island, New York. Any suggestions?

It gets the weather from HD radio. I wonder if Connecticut’s radios reach your location on Long Island. Maybe that’s why?
