So wondering if anyone else has this issue. My speed limit icon both on the cluster as well as the map display does not always shows up. It happens with or without use of the nav system.... no rhyme or reason as to when its there. The actual speed always shows up on the map display. Anyone have any thoughts?

Is it possible that you’re driving on roads for which the system has no speed limit info in its database?

We live in a rural area and there are often posted speed limits but they don't show on our screen. I just figure it's a podunk spot that isn't in the database. It always shows on the highways and in bigger towns for us.

You can probably blame your County Road & Bridge/Transportation Department or state DOT for the missing roadway and attribute (speed limit) data. Either their GIS databases do not include this data, or they don’t make it available for free or cheap to the public. In the case of a county agency, they may not even have a GIS, especially for smaller countries. I believe all State DOT’s have GIS capabilities, but often only carry complete attribute data for State-owned roads. Local geometry and attribute data content varies in State DOT databases.

(FWIW, I used to work for the a State DOT GIS section, and worked closely with local government DOT GIS programs.)

Yeah, I just figured it's a small area that isn't included on everything. In town the speed limits show up, outside of town, when it's just county, they don't show unless we're on the state highways.

Guess I just need to remember to check weather on the same road at different times if sometimes its there, and not other times

so had the opportunity to go on the same road this week. Its a county road and this time the speed limit showed up. Not sure what if anything I can do about that but its happened a few times on different roads that are not really "backroads"

Is the GPS system working (and able to track your location) at the same time the speed limit is missing?

Good call. Need a solid lock on at least 4 satellites for GPS to work. (Triangulation + 1 for 3D positioning on the Earth’s surface.) They must all be well above the horizon to have an adequate PDOP - positional dilution of precision - to decide where you are.

Bad PDOP = can‘t locate your position
No position = can’t lookup speed limit
Can’t lookup = nothing to display

Did you check your GPS function when it wasn’t working? If not, check it next time it doesn’t display the speed limit.
