Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

Hello,

We had the same issues. We live in South Carolina, bottom line the dealership is taking the car back based on South Carolina's lemon law. There is a post that mentions running the car with the recycle air on, believe it or not it worked for our car.
How did you get them to invoke the lemon law? My car has been in for the whistling noise 5 times but since they cannot replicate it, they say that the car is working as designed. I have sent in 3 videos to show them how loud it is. Thanks.

My advice would be to consult an attorney that specializes in lemon laws. A carefully worded letter that details the issues can be enough for them to buy back your car as opposed to going through a lawsuit. In this case, you have the upper hand since so many people are having the same issue. If you have in writing that they said the car is working as designed you can use that against them as well. If it were working as designed then Hyundai wouldn't be trying to fix the issue.

@fdmayer

I wanted to add one more item in my cure for the wind whistle.

Hyundai at one point installed a small piece of foam inside the window channel. I think this was done at the port in an attempt to fix the wind noise. I found that their foam piece fills a gap, and it is useful in decreasing the wind noise. My driver side foam filled the gap in the zeal’s channel, but the passenger side still had a small visible gap.

Using foam tubing I stuffed the hole still visible above the Hyundai foam piece. This decreased my wind noise even better.

So while I focused on sealing the B pillar side of the window seal channel, don’t forget the A pillar side. Hyundai tried to address the A pillar seal gap but their technicians did a poor job on my passenger side in their attempted fix.

We test drove one yesterday. My ears hurt so bad from the pressure, as if a window was open but none were open!! Other than that, the car is wonderful....except for the microfiber headliner. I hate all the marks on it. It looks messy.

What happened with the service visit?
they said they didn’t hear anything. 2 different people drove it and that was it. I guess I will just hope that the wind noise fix fixes that as well...

2021 limiteds don’t have the microfiber so that may be a better option, I prefer the headliner in the 2021’s

I hate autocorrect. I typeD “buffeting” and it corrected it to buffering twice in my previous post!

Just wanted to say that a horsehair brush does a perfect job of smoothing out the micro suede headliner. I love the look of it and had it done as a replacement headliner on another car.

Not sure how a service center can deny any wind buffeting. That is really easy to replicate, is it not? A slight wind whistle I can understand if it only happens at certain speeds and wind direction, but buffeting?

maybe i’m calling it the wrong word? it’s like that helicopter noise that happens when you crack open one back window. the problem is the sound is very light and muted and not everyone is as sensitive to the pressure. and if you are on a road with a lot of noise, bumps like the route they test drive then it may be hard to hear. I asked for them to ride with me so I can replicate it for them but they were not receptive of that. I will reapproach this but I am hoping the wind noise correction will correct it. in the meantime next time i’m near them I will find a route that I can hover at 35-37 or 55-57. every time my ears bother me it’s that range of speeds every time. they test drive in a congested area with a lot of stoplights

Sounds like your service center....doesn't comprehend the word SERVICE..try another Dealer if practical.

Yes, I have a wind/noise problem with my vehicle. Matter of fact the noise I hear from other vehicles are so clear that in my 2006 Escalade I barely heard a noise. I have an appointment tomorrow for them to fix this issue along with my Passenger side door is not aligned with the rear window. This is definitely a serious defect and I'm with you "Thisispalidade." I want a replacement vehicle.

I anticipate the dealer will be a waste of time. They work with tech line and do the dumbest things. My dealer lied to me telling me a new seal was out and when I drove home heard it right away and checked the order it was the old part... Hyundai consumer affairs says there is no clear fix and basically has a follow up for me each month now... This is our only concern outside hyundai's paint durability.

I personally have doubts a different palisade will fix it and that gets messy now with 2021 model changes that you keep same features you had before...

As others have suggested going to an audio shop might be our best bet to fix it...

Joining the list here... 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited. Excellent vehicle afflicted with very annoying wind noise. First noticed over summer and brought into dealer for fix a few months ago. They "made adjustments" which did nothing. It is now getting worse, I can hear both driver and passenger doors leaking. I fear that installing my Thule ski rack will make it unbearable. Its heading back to the dealership this week to fix an inoperable rear vent system and have this looked into again. Hate to say but if they can't fix I might dump it for a new Highlander. I'll repost later this week.

Good luck with fix for wind noise.

Hello everyone, I was looking on the internet for feedback regarding the 2020 Palisade. I am 6 weeks in with mine which is the Ultimate. I travel extensively for business, which means I am in the car for long periods of time each day. The wind noise is truly a flaw to the point my phone conversations, people think I have the window open a bit. I just had my first oil change and asked the service manager to check it out. I advised you need to travel over 80 kph to hear it. He agreed there is noise. He went back to dealership and drove another model from their lot, same issue. It seems the window moves when it is down more so than any other car i have had. I am not a auto designer but maybe the seals need to be either set differently or a different style put on. It is to the point where I am experiencing head aches from the noise. Looking for feedback if anyone else has experienced it or how to report it directly to Hyundai.
Hello,
I'm in the market for a 2021.
Did you find a solution to your wind issue?

Wind noise and whistling has been cured by a few of us if you’re willing to put in some work.

When you say cured do you hear no wind noise at all? I don't hear whistling but the wind is quite loud still. With that said the road noise is much lower than other cars so draws more attention to the noise of the wind.
