( it's not Hyundai that's the issue) ? Ok .. not being to standard upon release ? I do not recall being informed of that when I purchased..
Yes. I see all these posts about foam rope. I'm not gonna rig a brand new vehicle??!! If I provided a service and the results were soo bad that they had to go over my work..I'd be asking for my money back. You pay a certain price expecting certain results.

Today I put some foam ..think I bought the wrong one grey..and says soft cell.anyway..we all know and have seen the small piece of foam they put in the door near the mirror..I also had some near the to of the window channel...
That grey soft cell rope is not the correct one to use. It compresses and does not hold a seal. See posts above for the correct product.

Great...thought I got the wrong foam...tkz

I originally tried the gray foam backer rope. Unfortunately, that's how I found out it didn't work very well (about the same time others were writing about it not working well). The black EPDM Closed Cell Solid Foam Tubing is definitely the way to go. Not only does the EPDM Closed Cell Solid Foam Tubing work, but it isn't visible like the gray foam - because it's black.

Question is. Is the purpose of the foam rope to fill gaps to prevent airflow which the soft foam should do..or is the purpose of the foam to push against the existing weather stripping, which the closed cell black foam would be more capable of..?

I’m going to put it wherever it fits, but I don’t want to put it in the window channel where the glass compresses it. I don’t want to have to look at it when I roll my windows down, even though it’s black my eyes will want to stare at it knowing it doesn’t really belong there! Hahaha

I never see it and I know where I put it. 😈 I don’t even remember all the places I’ve applied it.

when you roll the windows down can't you see the rope in the window channel? Mine doesn't arrive for another two weeks so I have time before I can start "customizing" my Palisade. hahah

You don't see it. Follow the directions from another post above & use the black EPDM Closed Cell Solid Foam Tubing.

Just follow the directions from the earlier post, and you won't see it using the black EPDM Closed Cell Solid Foam Tubing.

You have to know EXACTLY where to look and you STILL may not see it right away.

In the act of chasing a very moderate wind noise issue in my car, I've applied the foam to everyplace suggested by other members and even a couple more. Granted, my car never had the whistles, thrumming or any of the more obnoxious noises reported by others which would have been understandably very frustrating. As anal as I am, I just had to chase down any noise issue I thought could be improved.

In addition to all of the recommended locations, I also applied foam in all the similar locations in the rear doors anyplace it would fit.

I also installed a rubber strip on the leading edge of the rear doors where the they meet the closed front doors to hopefully control any air movement sounds in that area.

The bottom line is that I couldn't quantify how much, if at all, any of the applications made much of a difference individually. I can say, though, that the final result has been pretty satisfactory. I'm now quite happy with the that the wind noise level is as good as can be expected and I'm happy with it. Also, the doors open and close with a nice thud that surpasses the even the pleasant sound of our G80s doors.

I haven't been able to do any long distance highway trips, but so far the wind noise seems to be totally under control. The most noticeable remaining noise is probably tire noise that's made more bothersome by the open box shape of the interior of the Palisade body.

I hope all of you that pursue the black foam remedy can be as satisfied with your results as I am. Good luck.

Thanks I will continue to foam up.... btw..wonder if all this foaming may create a drainage problem with..washing etc..

I think that replicating ckon’s effort may be the best temporary solution. It would also be telling if someone could do this in stage to better pinpoint the source. Just a thought. Steelers, you may be the best to do this as you have the wind noise.

You make a very good point...staging..trial and error ..is a worthwhile approach, something the manufacture should consider.
I am baffled as to why Hyundai drags their feet on this issue..
Now the feedback will begin.." what do you mean drag their feet. "

Since there have been over 900 posts on this thread and several about using this product, perhaps you could post some pictures of exactly where you installed the foam. Thanks!

Easier said than done. Here are pix of the rear door edge and the material I used from Home depot:

Pics are wonderful for showing that something can be done, but they're misleading on a project like this because if they're taken close up enough to show detail it's difficult to figure out location. Then if wide enough to show location, detail is tough. You just end up poking around the car anyway so start there. I know that sounds like a blow-off, but, IMO, it really is the easiest, fastest way of making progress.

When the original pics first appeared It turned out to be easier, for me at least, to just go out to the car and start poking around once I knew what could be done. There are many areas around the windows and doors, front and rear, where there are spaces just waiting to be filled with this foam rope to close up areas of air infiltration. The rope is cheap, removable and easy to experiment with.

Look for spaces behind weatherstrip around doors, inside and outside of the windows. Look down at the window channels when the windows are open. There are spaces inside and outside the window glass that will accept the foam rope. Test the windows to make sure you haven't added any obstruction that will slow operation and expose the window motor to possible premature wear.

One other problem is the fact that we're fighting a whole bunch of different causes, sources and locations of these noises and YMMV so there is no one-size-fits-all fix. Ya just gotta experiment. Good luck and, hopefully, have fun.
