I’m reluctant to start stuffing foam anywhere I can fit it for now. I want to test for a longer period if this one strip of rope will eliminate my issue.

i know putting more foam elsewhere will likely improve the overall sound insulation so I might do that in the future, but first I just want to see if this one treatment cures my whistle long term

Can you tell me when all of you people purchased your cars? I am seriously considering buying a Palisade right now, but I am ADHD so the wind noise will drive me insane! I am wondering if they have fixed this in any of the models they are producing now. Does anyone know?

Agreed. Like the buyer stated above though. Go in eyes wide open, accept the defect, lower your expectation and save some dough. OR, pay more, get a vehicle that is at least quiet on the HWY and then like a normal vehicle, just deal with things as they happen.

I don’t know that I’d state in advance that I bought a vehicle that I know has loud wind noise. If you decide that you want to lemon it down the road, you may be faced with your own quote - that you bought a vehicle knowing full well it had wind noise issues. Might want to rethink that position.

Just a thought: I bought my luxury Palisade factoring in the wind noise. When I did my test drives and looked at the reviews, I told myself to factor into my assessment that I'd end up with some noise at some point. Actually made it easier to decide. All of the reviews I read had the Palisade in the top 4, most had it in the top 2, even w/ wind noise mentioned. After driving several 3-row SUV's, I liked the Palisade. After owning it for 2 1/2 months, I love it even though I have some minor wind noise.

But that's just me. My priorities were my priorities. Leg room and extended seats (I'm 6'5"), comfortable touring ride, lots of upscale features for the price. Really the number 1 thing for me was value. But it's all about what your priorities are. Every car has different strengths and weaknesses. No perfect SUV short of a hundred grand. If wind noise will drive you crazy, you shouldn't buy the Palisade because you may be one of the unlucky ones.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee would be my next choice, but I swear, every 3rd SUV on the road is a Jeep GC - but I can go days without ever seeing a Palisade - there's something about that...

Is anybody else experiencing a very loud wind noise on the driver side of the car at higher speeds. Mine is so loud it hurts my ears. I am going to take it to the dealer, but wondered if anyone else was experiencing it or took it into the dealer.

We bought ours in June and it was silent. It got progressively worse overtime. 3 attempts to fix it only made it worse. The noise is now at a level that no one would put up with. This isn’t a mild whistle or crosswind noise, this is a loud droning.

Apart from the TSB...and all the failed attempts to fix this, I wonder when Hyundai began putting the black foam pieces in the door near the window.
It appears that they knew there was an issue and attempted to hide it. Could it be that the foam install was hit or miss, and thus the reason for the various levels of noise,and how it increases with time.

My car was built on July 2, 2019, long before this issue was known, and has that foam. It was always there. Nobody’s trying to hide anything...

Foam as a damping material isn't exactly an odd thing to have in a vehicle.

I don’t think Hyundai is really interested in fixing this one to be honest but I agree it would be super easy for their engineer to diagnose if they were interested. I just want this POS out of my driveway at this point Sorry you guys are having to deal with all of this and theorize what could be wrong.

The BMW solution appears to be better/smarter in this one. Less failure points, less opportunity for air to infiltrate the door. And I agree with you that if Volvo could figure it out 10 years ago, Hyundai should just copy them. Lord knows the Hyundai solution hasn’t worked so far.

Again feel sorry for you guys as you shouldn’t be having to go through all this with a new vehicle.

I don't know that I'd go that far.

There are some possibilities that have been suggested here that would be very easy to test, I agree, but we have no way of knowing if they have been tested and not proved to be the issue.

I just feel sorry for you guys......painter’s tape, duct tape, weather stripping....seems to be getting worse over time. You should be out enjoying these things not fixing and re-engineering. Nothing worse than dropping $35K or worse $50K on a vehicle you need to duct tape.

I’d ‘waste one’ to learn. Hell they should sacrifice mine. Fill it with smoke and trace where it’s leaking in/out. If they were serious about it they do it. My guess is it’s something way worse that is too expensive to fix. How much you want to bet that they already know? No conspiracy theorist, but the choices are:

1) Hyundai engineers really are this ignorant
2) The issue is beyond their understanding of fluid dynamic
3) They know what the issue is and it needs a major redesign to solve that is too expensive to fix 50,000 US units and 100K units worldwide? $2,500 worth of mirrors, labor, loaners = $250,000,000 problem.

I looked at mine closely today to compare it to the BMW X7 and it really is lacking in exterior fit/finish:

1) Inconsistent panel gaps over the entire vehicle versus laser straight on the X7.
2) Especially around the door area. I’m beginning to think this body is flexing to make the problem worse over time.
3) As already stated - Attaching the mirror to a body panel and creating failure point #1 for air to enter.
4) 2 piece mirror design stalk + mirror creates another failure point. This is one piece on the X7.

Id do the test, but 7000 miles in and I still don't have any wind noise except for once or twice in 40-50mph perpendicular gusts.

Look at the panel gaps in the area I circled versus the X7. There is soooo much variance in that leading edge. The more I look at this the more obvious it is.These are just poorly built. The seal behind that area has no chance of holding back 70mph winds, let alone the pressure waves generated by crosswinds. The same area on the X7 has super tight tolerances and you can’t get a toothpick in the gap because there’s a thick rubber seal guarding it. I can jam a pencil in the Hyundai hole. Hell, I may have just solved it!

Saxy, not sure the right people are reading your message, but definitely keep trying. I saw you tried to help another forum member with his Lemon as well. I waited and cost myself $2K because I wanted to believe Hyundai wanted to fix it. We reported it 6 months ago.......it’s not going to get fixed.
