It's a great vehicle. Lots of creature comforts. TONS of safety features. It fits both me (5'2") AND my husband (6'4") which isn't easy. STILL, I wish it had some things that seem easy and sensible. What do you wish it had (or what have you done as a work-around)?

MY LIST
• A removable jump seat between the 2nd row captain chairs like our Highlander has (so not only do you have seating for 8) so that when you fold the seats down, there isn't a huge gap between the seats where stuff falls. I hear they offer it in Korea.

• The push buttons to be re-ordered so that DRIVE is at the top and REVERSE is at the bottom. To me, that feels more natural the the top is ahead and the bottom is behind.

• Movable arm rests for the front captain chairs. Maybe itdoens matter if the seat is far enough back and your arms are long enough to use the center console, but for short people with the seat way forward, my elbow can't rest on the console.

• A sunglass holder up near the "mommy-mirror", or maybe a replaceable cover so you have your choice. (Again for those of us with seat way forward, opening the center console which is "now" behind us isn't so easy.

• A rubber surface rear cargo mat (not carpeted which is much harder to clean). I hear they offer it in Canada.

I don't believe that they offer such a jump seat in Korea. They do offer a rear center console on the VIP trim level, which is not available here.

The gearbox button are ordered the way they are because they match the PRND pattern from traditional shifters that has been in use for decades. Hyundai even goes so far as lighting up all the buttons in sequence when you switch from P to D (take a look at them next time you do it). Your way would break that decade-old standard and generate more confusion, not less. Even cars with rotary shifters stick to the PRND sequence.

Oh didn't realize the legacy of it. However, I just looked at google images, and often the gear shift has the reverse at the very opposite end of first gear, with 1st top left and reverse, bottom right. And often they are horizontal in the order you cite from left to right, which doesn't suggest forward and back. So it's not 100% consistent.

(And yes, I forgot it's a center console on Korean models... which does fill the gap:)

So, have you any workarounds?

Are you mixing up manual and automatic shifters? A little confused by your post.

It’s not so much the left/rIght or up/down that I was pointing out, but rather the sequence. You have driven other automatic cars before the Palisade, right?
 
Yes, I am looking at both and yes, I drove manuals. Why do I feel I am arguing this point that feels unnatural to me - and to others I have spoken to. Perhaps it has to do with the vertical alignment, the actual curve of the area, or maybe buttons instead of sliding knob. Don;t know. I just know I want to press the button at the top to go forward, and the button at the button to go back, and I find myself having to look and read each time to be sure which has not happened on any other car:) Perhaps if this is confusing to others, it could be an option to replace the button is different order.

The buttons are no big deal imo
Power folding mirrors..and better tires..although factory tires usually are subpar on all makes..

Automatic gear shifters have always had different shift patterns than manual shifters. For one thing, manual shifters have an "H" type pattern so you shift back and forth, but also sideways. Every automatic shifter I have used had Park at the top, Reverse, Neutral. and Drive at the bottom. I personally don't like the push-button shifters, but they save space.

As far as those accessories you mentioned. You might be able to find a dealer in Canada to ship the rubber car mat to you, but even if they agreed to do that it could be expensive for shipping and customs declaration. BTW, those are not made by Hyundai, they get them from a 3rd party supplier who make them to their specifications.

For accessories in Korea, search the Internet for Korean Auto Import companies, who sell a lot of stuff (Hyundai OEM and after-market accessories) in the USA. There is also a company like Weather Tech in the USA which might have what you are looking for in a rubber surface cargo mat.

Yes, Thanks. Luckily, we are near the border and will order from a dealer in Victoria and pick it up when we are able to travel across the border:) (We looked at Weather Tech already. Not great.) I will try to do a search as you suggested!! Thanks!

I would take that part number (S8857AP000) and google it to see if you find a another vendor who has it in stock.

We bought a small cooler at Walmart that fills the gap and gives anyone in the 2nd row cool drinks!

If you are talking about the console, I spent hours last night searching eBay and the web- contacted JPAR Auto (from a previous comment) and they are asking for a part #. How did you find it?

(If you are talking about the mat, yes, I found it with free shipping and also can get it in Canada:)
