Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

Well I promised a follow up and it's been an interesting couple months...

Since my last post the car has been in twice for increasingly bad wind noise from driver and passenger front windows. It's to the point that unsuspecting passengers now comment on it without me pointing it out. Pretty embarrassing.

At the last service, the dealer was able to make some adjustments to the window which improved the noise, but unfortunately it gradually came back over the course of the next two weeks.

According to multiple Hyundai dealers they have been working on a new TSB ( Hyundai rescinded the first one because it was not effective) since at least May. They still don't have one and cannot estimate a date on when it'll be available. Both of the dealers I communicated with on this issue acknowledged a large problem with other customer vehicles as well. Hyundai has a big problem here.

I made the decision to trade the vehicle in. I will not continue to pay a $650 car payment for a car that angers me every time I drive it. I traded it for a new Chrysler Pacifica AWD. So far I absolutely love it.

I have a lot more I could say but I'll be surprised if this gets posted with the details above. Good luck to you all.

Interesting choice, the Pacifica is not without its own problems IMO. But really hope you will enjoy it!

I would personally try to trade the Palisade for a new Sorento or Highlander if it comes to this eventually.

I assume you had a 2020?

Hey everyone. I’m new here and have been debating on purchasing a Palisade. I have narrowed it down to a Palisade and a Telluride, but like the Pali more. But if the wind/whistling is a continuing issue, I may go with the Telluride.

I’ve read a lot of threads about the wind issue but can’t determine if this is mostly a 2020 issue or has it been resolved with the 2021? Appreciate all the feedback.

It was a 2020 Limited. The issue is undiagnosed at this point, so not sure how it can be fixed.

I don't have the issue on my 2021 SEL. BTW, there is an easy fix you can find in one of the window posts. See below.

"If you've tried the foam rope insulation fix and it didn't work, you may want to try again. I adjusted the inner door/window "V" channel rope and it cured my issues. This is the channel where I used the 3/8" rope. On my second attempt I made sure to jam it better into the corner, both the front and the rear corner edges. On the front corner/edge, where the factory placed their little foam square, there was still a small gap/hole where the factory foam didn't fill. Once I jammed my 3/8" foam rope into this little (but visible) gap, my wind whistle was completely cured."

Any chance you have pictures or video to share?

Is anybody else experiencing a very loud wind noise on the driver side of the car at higher speeds. Mine is so loud it hurts my ears. I am going to take it to the dealer, but wondered if anyone else was experiencing it or took it into the dealer.
We test drove 4 different Palisade and 3 of the 4 made a noise that you could feel in our ears like a back window was down a little bit didn't start till around 40 mph. We did find the one we wanted and doesn't have that noise and I pray it will never start. Good Luck

Hello Everyone with Palisade wind noise. This is a poor manufacturing problem with Hyundai and you should contact corporate office to complain about this issue. I have been in contact with corporate and they coordinated with the local dealership where I purchased my Palisade to TRY to correct the problem. These vehicles are new and no one should be trying to fixe a $50,000 dollar SUV when its still under warranty and has not pass it 1st year old mark. Also I have notices that the Driver and Front Passenger seats do not have floor vents for heating STRANGE!. If you click on floor heat there is not heat in the front floor at all nor any vents, but there is plenty of floor vents in the rear. Just an FYI

Was this a 2020 or 2021?

Good choice go with something else because the Palisade is a horrible vehicle and it is in the 2020 and a few of the 2021.

I respect the Palisade owners who already own the vehicle and want to fix the wind issue, but I’m not sure I want to purchase and then do additional work on a 50k vehicle.

More concerning is the lack of support from Hyundai corporate. If this has been an issue for over a year, I’m not seeing any proof that they are being diligent about addressing it.

I think there is a possibility that the main reason this is not so easy for Hyundai to fix is that the Palisade apparently has some unusual aerodynamics around the outside side view mirrors and nearby windows. I am basing that on threads where people have complained about vibrating outside side view mirrors at certain speeds, and this just happens to be in the area of the front windows. I think Hyundai will eventually fix the root cause by redesigning the aerodynamics of the outside rear view mirrors, maybe in the 2022 model. But steps can be taken right now to significantly reduce or eliminate the problem, but it may not be the exact same solution for each vehicle.

I know the problem exists but it isn't every vehicle. More 2020 than 2021. You are always going to hear from those that aren't happy. That is the way it works. Hyundai is addressing the problem and had a bulletin out to fix it. Apparently that didn't fix all of them. Owners took it upon themselves to fix it instead. Test drive the one you want to buy. Take it to highway speeds. If the wind noise is there you'll know right away. At least know there is a fix. Whether Hyundai does it or you do.

I'm on several forums and no car is trouble free.

I think the Palisade is a wonderful SUV. It is comfortable and roomy. Has top notch safety features and I think it is stylish. It gets high marks from Consumer reports and one of the car mags. You could look at the Kia Telluride. Again, this is subjective but I looked at the Toyota Hylander, Honda Pilot, Volkswagen Atlas, Mazda CX 9, and Chevrolet Traverse. They all had something i didn't like enough to not purchase one. I thought the Palisade was better overall than all of them. I was leaning toward the Mazda before I looked at the Palisade. On the Mazda the headroom was less in the 3rd row, the middle seat in row two was horrible and there was no air/heat outlets for the 3rd row area. Good luck.

don't listen to the TROLLS
I hear you. I completely understand that way more people come online to complain than to speak positively about anything. It’s difficult to fully grasp the frequency of this wind issue with so many trolls

I’ve test driven almost all the same ones as well. Sometimes the wind thing doesn’t show up at first with the Palisade, so I’m hesitant. I think I’m down to the Pali and the Telluride, but not sure I want to wait 14 weeks.

I really appreciate your feedback Thanks
