Hi all,

We just bought the wife a new palisade limited in moonlight cloud to replace her maxima. While I was prepping the paint to ceramic coat it (I’m an auto detailed), I noticed that the side wings from the back spoiler were Rubbing the paint off where they contacted the liftgate. It is happening on both sides, and after further examination, I determined that's it's happening because those wings are not securely attached enough to keep them from fluttering in the slipstream. Now, this vehicle has less than 150 miles on it, and it's already down to the bare metal. I promptly took the vehicle to Hyundai and they are sending it to the paint shop next week. We checked a couple of other Palisades on the lot, and sure enough, they had damage too. So this is obviously a design defect. So please check your Palisades for this damage. I am betting that it's there. If it is, let Hyundai know about it. If enough of us complain, maybe they'll fix the problem!
Here's a picture of the damage. (Sorry for the dust. West Texas....)0DA57C2B-5A41-4E8B-BC21-BF0A4064DB94.webp

Can you give a wider angle to better show where you are talking about?

Sure. It'll be a couple of days before I get back home to do it though.

Mine either has a mark there on each side or a build of dust/debris. I'll check closer next time I wash it. I don't think I'd ever have noticed.

I am a bit curious if it's actually something wearing due to movement while driving or if it something that was damaged during install, as there seems to be a gap between the paint and the window trim there and not in a direction I'd expect to see a lot of deflection.

I have a 1/2" white mark only on one side, but assumed it was where the paint robots "missed a spot".

Don't see it on mine but I have a little PPE left over from when I put it on the front of hood.
Will see if I can put some right there to protect it

If you enlarge to see the small white area where the OP also posted about, is this primer or metal? Do I need to touch it up (literally less than half an inch) or just watch it? New car. Thanks!

I just checked mine and there is no paint abrasion whatsoever. There is a consistent gap between the trim and the painted surface.

I feel like what I see on mine is literally where they missed a spot painting. I don't know what I'm seeing though.

Just an FYI, the entire upper portion of the rear hatch is plastic, so there's no need to worry about rust. This includes the area with the "H" and the "PALISADE" lettering, and the area that wraps around the sides. The two surfaces referred to in the original posting are both plastic - thankfully, no "bare metal" is exposed from rubbing. To test any surface, use a magnet.

Lol! Thanks so much for not only the reply, but for not making me feel stupid! Have a great one 👍.

I checked mine today.. It looks like there's a little build up of paint? Maybe that means its starting to peel?

Did you see two posts above which states this area is plastic and not metal? I know we don't want our paint to peel, but at least we don't need to worry about rust.

I did, but potential peeling is still an area of concern. I am leasing mine, so I guess not too big of a concern ;)

I definitely agree it shouldn't be peeling, but am glad I don't have to worry about rust.
