Has anyone installed any theft protection device(s) on their Palisade catalytic converter? If yes...what did you do and what was the cost?
TIA

Joke if you will but a friend of mine had the catalytic converter stolen from his 10 year old truck which was parked in supposedly secure condo parkade.
Aside from the considerable inconvenience and a $11,400 repair bill he's back to normal.

I just spoke with my Hyundai dealer's parts department and was informed that although we have a single exhaust line we do have two catalytic converters.
This means they are mounted quite high up in the undercarriage, before the exhaust lines join, and therefore are very thief-unfriendly to remove.
It looks like this particular vehicle will not be an easy target....good to know.

I dont know what kind of Hyundai you have, but the cat converter and downpipe were stolen from the undercarriage of my 2021 Palisade.

Really? Damn; that's crazy. May I ask where do you live? They must have lifted your Pali somehow, since there's just no way even my skinny a$$ can get under there and do any kind of work, let alone cut the converters with large tools. In addition, to get to the front bank converter, you need to remove the belly pan (like to change the oil). Hopefully you can provide details of what exactly those low-lives aholes did to your vehicle, and damage inflicted. Thank you, and sorry to hear about that.

Just looked under my wife's 2020 palisade. It's right there!

Hawaii has had about 2,000 thefts this year - thieves want the precious metals. 3 minutes under you car and it’s gone. They use sawzall’s. Neighbors have been installing theft shields. So if you lose the caddy your looking at 1500+ to replace. I don’t have a site yet but Amazon sells them. Check ur insurance to see if ur covered as well

Thieves are actually using pipe cutters, which make no noise. Very hard to prevent if you leave the car outside. But there's an even nastier theft going on now: FUEL. The aholes puncture your tank to steal maybe $50 of fuel, and leave you stranded with a multi-thousand dollar bill that could take months to fix. My vehicles always sleep in the garage, so I don't have to worry about that. But it's sad the times we live in.

Two of my neighbors had their catalytic converters stolen over the last few days, and I do want to get something to protect it. Parking in the garage isn't an option.

Has anyone found a good option?

I don't think there is, to be honest. At least install a camera, and/or motion-sensing spot lights, to try to deter thieves. Finally, if you have a garage, you could do what we did, and get rid of crap you don't need (plus we told our 2 daughters to either come get their crap, or it'd be donated away. Ha ha). In addition, I bought a very nice tool cabinet system/work station, plus a big 4'x8' ceiling rack from 'NewAge' of Canada, and also 2 ceiling (horizontal) bicycle racks for our 2 Trek bikes from 'FloaterHoist' (a Canadian company as well), which I installed above the garage door (when opened), which is otherwise wasted space. And I was able to store all the leftover (but useful) crap there, so our smallish 2-car garage is now free from crap on walls and floor, and our 2 cars fit just fine. In fact, I was also able to buy a bike AND a single foldable trailer, and fit them in front of my wife's car, with zero interference :). If you keep accumulating crap, you'd need a warehouse in a few decades. Ha ha. We were forced to face that when downsizing from 4K sq/ft with 4-car garage, to exactly half that (2K sq/ft + 2-car garage). And when we eventually hit the sack, we don't want our daughters having to deal with a ton of crap they'd have to just give away anyway. But up to you how (and when) to deal with that (hoarding) issue... which most of us have to some degree :). Hope this helps.

I know man. Ha ha. It was REALLY hard, but glad we finally decided to do something about it. Nowadays, we don't buy anything we don't need, and whatever we don't use anymore, it gets sold or given away. We still have some crap from my daughters, but it's only one closet now. Ha ha. I told my wife she can do whatever she wants inside the house, but the garage is mine, and the only crap there will be mine, with the exception of a large cabinet for yard tools, and whatever fits on the big ceiling rack above, which surprisingly, it's only about 1/2 full now. The hardest part was to get rid of perfectly usable stuff, but if it wasn't going to get used anymore, it got tossed. I also got rid of a lot of tools I didn't want to get rid of, like a large grinder, large hammer drill, creeper, large (25-gal) air compressor, large air tools (which I never used), etc., but don't regret it, as I haven't needed any of them in years. My Dremel has been able to do the grinding jobs I needed perfectly fine. And my little pancake air compressor is all I have needed. So I just bought more compact tools (an electric impact wrench, etc), and only what I really need. Oh, and the ultra bulky yard tools (tractor mower, lawn mower, gas trimmers, etc) are gone too, as we put a very nice fake grass on our way smaller yard, and don't need any of that, so we don't even have a shed now. All the garden tools fit inside a large cabinet that is about 1/3 of the total space I have, and everything I have fits in there. There's nothing on the floor, except the bike and trailer on top of the step, in a corner of the garage, out of the way. Hey, just pretend you're going to move cross country, and it'd be easier to take that step. Ha ha. Good luck.

Statistically speaking Catalytic Converter theft is really on the rise both in Canada and the USA. Its getting to the point that if and when yours gets taken.. good luck in finding one quickly as they are in high demand to get replaced for very good reasons. Carbon monoxide poising is NOT something to fool around with... your Vehicle may sound COOL... but its dangerous and loud without it, and of course the pollution side of things as well. Some people thing this is a joke but its not and its seriously getting to be a exhausting proble ( sorry couldnt resist, pun intended.
The converter is being cut out of vehicles because of the resale value at metal salvage places.
Check this out

If you have a garage you can install a camera to try and dissuade criminals. I also purchased a very nice work station/tool cabinet system from "NewAge", along with a sizable 4' x 8' ceiling rack and 2 ceiling-mounted (horizontal) bicycle racks for our two Trek bikes from "FloaterHoist". Now I'm happy with my garage, 2 cars and 4 bikes fit just fine because I was able to store all of the leftovers.
