Does anybody else object to the term “family hauler”?

Hello all. Just a discussion I thought I’d start to see what opinions others have. Nearly every review I’ve read or watched refers to the Hyundai Palisade as a family hauler. I’m 39, happily single and do not have any children. I’ve always preferred sportier cars. My favorite car I owned was a Pontiac G6 GTP coupe. My current vehicle is a Cadillac CTS coupe. Maybe my mid-life crisis car is just a reverse of the cliché. But on a few work trips my rentals were a Durango, a Suburban and a Tahoe and suddenly I decided I needed to switch to a SUV. The Tahoe RST was my top choice until the Palisade came along. Also, due to unfortunate life events, I no longer have immediate access to a truck when I have a large load to lug around (the two door CTS doesn’t cut it). I’ve read a lot of posts on the forums from people with no kids or kids old enough to have their own vehicles. So I’m just curious, do you all see this vehicle as a family hauler? If not, what drew you to it? For me, I was ready for something different and some additional practicality.

Imho...sedans are history..
The only cars worth buying are Corvette or some other exotic. Pickup truck if ya need a bed for dirty stuff.
Other than that SUV gets my vote..size depends on budget and needs.
Long retired ..fits our needs, size wise.

We see ours as a family hauler. Our kids aren't here for much longer, but we wanted a car that could haul everyone easily. We forewent larger vehicles for a long while (I hated our minivan) but last year with all the clubs our kids are in, we realized we needed something we could fit extras in.

We won't need a large SUV for much longer, but I also like the space of it and the utility of it, so we're fine having something larger than entirely necessary for the next ten years or so. However, I have a feeling when we replace our Outback, we might get a much smaller car for our second car.

After writing I kinda regretted the title I used. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with those who do use it as a family hauler, so I hope it didn’t come off as offensive. It’s just with EVERY review using the term, I occasionally find that I’m questioning my decision to purchase it. I just love the look, the tech, the comfort.....the warranty and price are great too!

I didn't take any offense. I could see how a single man might find the concept distasteful and not really in line with their "brand." I think you're right that Hyundai could pull in more folks by labeling differently.

We could call it a Crap Hauler. It hauls all your crap, family, or otherwise. (I'm kinda serious, just not in the actual wording.)

My wife and I will be using it for cross country trips to Texas to visit with the kids and grandkids. It's my daily driver otherwise. People can call them whatever they want. I've never been much on labels.

Well any proper 3 row vehicle with seating for up to 7 is ultimately designed to target families. When I was single I was more than happy with my Camaro SS, but once I got engaged to someone with a child i quickly decided I needed more room for people and cargo for road trips and even just around town stuff. I moved to a Camry XSE V6 which was great. Absolutely no issues with it for our passenger and cargo needs but I started to figure that I might as well just go SUV for the higher and bigger seating position and expanded cargo so went Pali. For those that think sedans are history I’d seriously doubt that. Sedans are, IMO, a better value for money and you pay a premium to go into a “bigger” vehicle even if they may be of a similar cabin size. Would I have personally purchased this Pali if I was single? No. I either would’ve stayed 2dr sports, a smaller luxury brand SUV/CUV or a truck. But that just me.

the modern day unibody SUV/CUV takes the place of what I grew up with, a station wagon. Many SUV owners buy them because they can't find themselves driving a minivan even though the minivan is by far a more practical choice for family hauling.

I had a minivan and got the Palisade to replace it. I considered another minivan but just wanted a change of pace. As for utility between my Odyssey and the Palisade, there is no doubt the Odyssey is the more practical of the two.

I could care less... it fits my use and purpose perfectly
