Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

I wonder if all the auto magazines such as Motor Trend and even Consumer Reports are aware if the wind noise issue. They have all bragged about how great the Telluride and Palisades are great cars (which they are except wind noise)? Maybe a little bad press would give Hyundai a little more incentive to fix the problem.

Maybe you and all the others could participate in the Consumer Reports survey to bring it to their attention. Other than that, Car and Driver is probably the most popular magazine but I doubt they would publish such a thing and expose themselves to libel law suits not to mention the loss of ad revenues.

I think you missed the point..read the previous entries..
I read the previous entries, but since you didn't quote who you were replying to, I don't know what "claim" you are referring to.

Are you saying that because Hyundai issued a TSB on wind noise, that if they can't fix it then the Lemon Law can be used?

There was discussion about if the wind noise would qualify as a recognized defect. My point was that the presence of a TSB would make it very difficult for someone to argue that the manufacturer didn't recognize it as a defect.

Basically because they've issued a TSB, they can't really claim it is behaving as designed.

So yes, depending on your state laws, it should be a reasonable candidate for a lemon claim.

More than likely, Hyundai is working on a permanent fix that involves swapping out some parts in the door. The temporary fix apparently does not last forever. If it were me, I would try and fix it myself, or have a car audio shop take the door panel off and do some additional sealing of the door.

There have been quite a few auto media reviews that have mentioned it, including car and driver. They never made a huge deal over it though.

It's just frustrating that after 3 attempts to get it fixed, it's actually gotten worse. I filed a claim/ticket with Hyundai, and they send you this generic email about contacting your dealership...... Then I responded saying it still wasn't fixed. Now they apparently escalated it to a "national case" so someone is actually supposed to call me to discuss. Not really anything else I can do.

Not good news...try another dealership and document ..get everything the dealers say and do in writing. Will be interesting to see what they say when they call. Hope it is not that old line...its normal...its within specs..or this is unique to your car...mention this forum and others..best of luck..

Thanks. I actually just got a return voice mail from my call to them yesterday. The advisor said he wanted to talk to me, because they were notified that they should be getting permanent fix instructions from Hyundai soon...... We'll see I guess. I'm not holding my breath. I am also not taking it back in until they have an idea of what to do. I can't be making a trip there every other week.

The crappy thing, is that the service advisers at the dealership really do seem concerned about my happiness. They seem frustrated as well, that there isn't a fix.

With Covid19 out there, I wouldn't want anyone in my vehicle what so ever, until a permanent fix is available. Just saying. We just got our first confirmed case in Tn, the Nashville area. Which is terrible for that area after just going through some major tornados. Everyone be diligent and stay safe.

Sure..wait until they fix others with good results

True, but are we all going to draw straws to see who will be the Guinea Pig?

Think again, they tell it just like it is.

My limited AWD has the foam also...the day I purchased the car I test drove ..no wind noise. I have noticed over the past couple of week the wind noise has increased and this morning had a whistle for the first time. Conclusion, does the foam wear away or move,or are there other areas that wear or shift with use. Sticking a piece of foam into the slot is not in my opinion a true fix.
Mine too!! No noise and now that I’ve had it for a month, I’m starting to hear a little wind noise from the B pillar area and not where the foam is. I also heard a whistle noise as well, but now it’s not there.

I just got notified by my dealer that my Ltd AWD has arrived. I told him about the wind noise issue and asked him to test drive it. He reported back that he drove at 75mph and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. He also said Hyundai will fix the issue, if there ever is one.

I have to fly to drive it and drive it 8 1/2 hrs home. I'm getting cold feet now. I don't want to spend 50k on a car I'm going to regret buying because Hyundai can't figure out a fix. What if they end up saying, "they all do that..." and leave owners high and dry with this issue?

It should be obvious by now that they all do that, but Hyundai will eventually come up with a permanent fix for it. That probably involves have a subcontractor modify the parts supplied for the door, which is not an instantaneous change that can be made.

You can get service at any dealer, not just where your purchased the vehicle. If you can't live with the problem for a few months (in case they have not made factory changes yet), then don't buy it.

That is speculation a fix will be here in a few months...the problem has existed for months.still no real fix.
The smart money would hold off on the purchase..or accept the fact that you may be setting yourself up fo disappointment.

I have been wanting to buy a new Palisade since the summer of 2019. I keep reading this thread hoping to see that Hyundai has fixed the internal wind noise problem. But all the posts here have convinced me to wait. That noise would drive me nuts, especially in a vehicle that I just bought for over $40k. And my wait could be a lot longer since the Coronavirus has effected parts inventory from China.
