Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

Pics are wonderful for showing that something can be done, but they're misleading on a project like this because if they're taken close up enough to show detail it's difficult to figure out location. Then if wide enough to show location, detail is tough. You just end up poking around the car anyway so start there. I know that sounds like a blow-off, but, IMO, it really is the easiest, fastest way of making progress.

When the original pics first appeared It turned out to be easier, for me at least, to just go out to the car and start poking around once I knew what could be done. There are many areas around the windows and doors, front and rear, where there are spaces just waiting to be filled with this foam rope to close up areas of air infiltration. The rope is cheap, removable and easy to experiment with.

Look for spaces behind weatherstrip around doors, inside and outside of the windows. Look down at the window channels when the windows are open. There are spaces inside and outside the window glass that will accept the foam rope. Test the windows to make sure you haven't added any obstruction that will slow operation and expose the window motor to possible premature wear.

One other problem is the fact that we're fighting a whole bunch of different causes, sources and locations of these noises and YMMV so there is no one-size-fits-all fix. Ya just gotta experiment. Good luck and, hopefully, have fun.
Well said..see a gap fill it..then test for functionality of door..window etc..

Easier said than done. Here are pix of the rear door edge and the material I used from Home depot:

Does this picture shows the D-style (not the 3/8" rope type) weather stripping applied to the bottom half of the front edge of the rear door where the front door closes into. Right? If so, did you think that there was wind noise in that area.

Yes. I just applied it there because there's often a strip applied to rear doors like that on premium and luxury vehicles and it seemed easy and logical to do. There's really no easy way to determine whether these individual "fixes" do anything but I'm game to do anything I think might help. Collectively, I think I've gotten good results. I'm happy. :)

Hey good for..tough road..question ..please an honest answer..would ever purchase another Hyundai product ?
Still a little too early in my ownership experience to answer 100%. I more than likely would, but probably not in the first model year.

Had my car on the freeway today and with a crosswind, about 10mph according to the HD Weather, I had a good whistling from the passenger side with the vents open. I put it into recirculation mode and it quieted down.

Anyone notice the bottom window "sweep" isn't a solid rubber piece like a squeegee, which I find on all my other cars?

This bottom (exterior) piece catches a lot of tree detritus, and it not being solid probably lets air pass through it.

Still waiting for my black rope to be delivered!

FWIW, if I understand you correctly, the rope will fit inside the sweep you're referencing. It's essentially a channel.

All that really matters.

I finally got to drive the highway today, maybe 25 miles or so at speeds of 75 - 80 and am very pleased with the noise level. Not silent definitely, but much more subdued than before the "rope" treatment was applied. There was a normal bit of road and tire noise but no objectionable wind noise at all. I'm looking forward to hearing about others' results. The effort and small expense has proven to provide a very worthwhile return. While there was no wind or crosswind noticeable, I'm pretty sure that when there is wind in the future the results will be proportional. Not perfect, but well worth the effort.

Ok, sounds great, but what can you do for the wind noise? 😂

I took a new palisade ultimate for a test drive today. Beautiful vehicle, was checking for wind noise from the front doors but it was relatively quiet. Even with a strong wind. But i did notice wind noise coming from the back sunroof. If you close the shade it went away but very obvious with the shade open. The front sunroof was noisy too but not as bad as the rear. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this problem. Not sure why noise would come from there when its fixed glass? The dealership just took delivery within the last week. Thanks again.

We do not have any wind noise from either sunroof on our AWD Limited.

We test drove 4 now in total. 3 had bad wind noise from the drivers door and now the last one was fine for the doors but now the sunroof had noise. I really wish the palisades didnt have these issues cause we really like the vehicle but i cannot own a car that constantly whistles. Guess its time to look at another suv. Thanks for everyones help on this forum!

Fyi..the wind noise appears to worsen as time goes on..so a test drive may not be indicative of future wind noise.
I suggest if you like the vehicle,,if possible, wait for the 2021 model...perhaps the wind noise problem will be addressed.

Yes I swear my wind noise is growing overtime and I don’t recall at all if there was any noise when I first drove it.

Got my 3/8in foam rope. I put it in the interior window channel first on the driver and passenger door (fronts). I’m going to see if this cures my wind whistle first before doing other gaps/channels.
The rope is a little too big to put in the exterior window sweep/seal, so if I still have a wind whistle I think I’ll look for something of a smaller diameter to try in the window sweep.

With the window down you can see two small areas where Hyundai placed foam.Did you place the 3/8 foam in that channel and did you go over the existing foam or just go up to it...tks...pain in the butt ain't it....

I didn’t see the small foam piece near the front of the window next to the speaker, and my build date is 12/27/19. Arrived at dealer 3/5

I could tell there is a tighter fit for the window to seat since there is a slight straining of the motor in the last inch of travel.
