Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

I think we all have our own realities. I have a Hyundai palisade that’s a lemon. As do several other owners on the site. I noticed by looking at the NHSTA that there are over 41 complaints regarding the Hyundai palisade. I also noticed that there’s only one complaint on the BMW. My BMW is vault quiet and rock solid. All carmakers have lemons, it just appears that Hyundai Palisade owners seem to have more issues than X7 owners. Time will tell.

I know you all are frustrated, I can feel it in your posts. I’m lucky to be getting out with all of my dollars, or nearly sell. But I sincerely hope they fix it for you all. But I am out. LOL
The wind noise problem began Long Before anyone ever heard of Covid19..then they advertise incompetence by coming out with a TSB that was a waste
Of time and money. Covid19 could be around for years ,so that is no excuse under the circumstances. Bet they had time to redesign the 2021 to correct
Issue, even with covid19. 2020 model ain't getting fixed and the noise will get worse..

As of 2:15pm today it is my firm belief that Hyundai makes the finest vehicles available in the US market. And yes of course they are better than a BMW. Everyone knows this.

Lol...that's what some on this forum want to hear ..glad you finally got the message..

I think SaXy and Eric May have hacked my account earlier. I have no issue with the Hyundai Palisade. Flawless, quiet, trouble-free.....it’s far better than the X7 with 3 recalls. Obviously BMW doesn’t know how to build a vehicle with 3 recalls and 1 complaint. I sure wouldn’t put up with that. Plus you know there’s always people that don’t complain so that NHTSA number is 1/2 what it really is. I’ll be that there’s 2 complaints.

Or you could just recognize that not everything (or anything) is absolute. Things aren't either flawless or completely flawed. All new cars have issues. Some have lots of little things, some have a few big things. Sometimes they're complaints over wind noise in the Palisade, sometimes they're safety recalls over steering racks failing that could cause you to lose control of the car and crash your X7. Sometimes brands are quick to identify and fix the problem, sometimes while working on a fix a global pandemic shuts down the economy causing a delay in progress.

My 2011 Sonata has 11 recalls and 2,794 complaints! LOL

And yet I have no regrets buying it. My biggest complaint about it is the rear visibility. hahaha

So I wonder:

Humans, we are a funny bunch. I wonder if the type of person buying a Hyundai at nearly 50k dollars is more willing to complain about their car compared to a typical buyer of a BMW as a 80k dollar purchase.

In other words, we have people who may be stretching to pay 50k dollars and had never spent that much on a car before so he/she has more expectations that the car is perfectly flawless, compared to a BMW buyer who has spent 50-100k on their car purchases in the past. Plus, the buyer of the more expensive luxury make may not want to acknowledge that their high dollar LUXURY brand isn't perfect, so they do their best to ignore minor problems that the Hyundai buyer won't accept after spending "nearly 50k dollars on a car!"

Basically, the "rich" folks don't want to acknowledge that they have issues with their car because it may tarnish their or their car's IMAGE.

The "regular" folks who may have never spent this much on a car before (the Hyundai is the most expensive Hyundai they make, excluding Genesis) so they don't have image hang-ups and expect a perfect car and are willing to complain.

I'm not a psychiatrist or psychologist

just a thought

That could be a factor or it could not be. Who knows. So might people posting links to the NHTSA website all over the forums and facebook group saying "go here and post your complaints". A call to action with an easy way to execute on that call to action will often get people to act.

I'd buy BMW/Mercedes/Audi, if I knew I'd get rid of it at the end of the warranty period. I don't lease cars and I keep cars past their warranty periods so I refuse to buy German.

my friend had a Mercedes nearing the end of warranty and his air suspension controllers needed replacing. What was that repair quote? Something in the neighborhood of 10k?!?

LOL

yeah, this is why you see dirt cheap German cars on the used car market. The cost to fix them exceeds their values. German luxury cars have become disposable items.

(I haven't forgotten about Italian cars or English cars)

Gosh fellas I feel terrible. Looks like someone hacked my account and said some very disparaging things about Hyundai. I would never say that especially after today. I think that Hyundai makes incredible vehicles. I do think that BMW’s build quality is suspect. I mean seriously how can you have one complaint! That is totally unacceptable for a vehicle costing $63,000. I may have to rethink my purchase. Sincerely hope that things work out for you guys and sorry to hear some of the problems you’re having but again mine was perfect. In fact I can’t seem to find any complaints before today when my account was hacked. I can’t even seem to find that video anymore. Crazy?

The wind noise problem started long before COVID-19, yes. But the TSB was pulled in early February, right when COVID-19 was spreading like wildfire through Asia (and had already hit the US and Europe, but people hadn't realized by how much just yet). How can you claim COVID-19 doesn't have an impact when literally the whole world has been shut down and not allowed to go anywhere? Do you expect Hyundai engineers to ignore the authorities and just go test drive stuff to satisfy you? The world doesn't revolve around you...

In this short post, you've managed to post that 1) the first TSB was a waste of time and money, even though that isn't true and some people's wind noise issue was fixed by it, 2) they had time to redesign the 2021 model, even though you can't possibly know that, 3) they won't fix the 2020 models, which you can't possibly know and 4) the wind noise will get worse, which you also can't possibly know. And by the way, 1 TSB that only partially addresses issues is better than none. You could acknowledge that, but you choose to call them incompetent instead. I hope they don't read this forum, for their sake.

That's some serious BS in 3 lines.

Oh look, the usual deflection from someone who's told to keep things in perspective: jump to extremes.

It's not that Hyundai cars are perfect or that Hyundai cars are the worst. There's a middle ground here that you're conveniently ignoring.

You posted the other day in your "Moving on" thread that while you had a lemon, it wasn't the case for everyone. For once, it was a rational post that kept things in perspective. But today you're back again with this "Hyundai engineers are incompetent, all their cars suck". You seem pretty mercurial. Did you have a bad day or something?

I’m sure I don’t know what you mean. I suggest everyone stay level headed here. I see Saxy telling people to just hire lawyers and lemon law their cars. I think he may be the one that hacked my account in fact. All this talk of lawyering up.....I would just give things a chance to fix themselves. If you all will just wait and be very, very patient I’m sure it will all just work out on it’s own - that’s been my experience. So my advice is just enjoy your vehicles.

You’re welcome. Good luck and let us know where you install it and how it works for you.
So, I just received the .38 inch foam today and I tried to put it in the gasket, but it seems too big. In the one video I saw the foam was completely inside the channel and then when he put the gasket back down you couldn’t tell. Mine, it doesn’t even go back down. Did I get the wrong size?

The cavity that I think you’re stuffing the foam rope into will fit the 3/8 diameter foam. The gasket will not fit exactly back into place, at least in mine it didn’t. But the gasket fits over and it may be less than 1/4 inches off from before the foam treatment. The foam rope makes this gasket expand tighter against the glass.
If you do it right you really can’t tell that the rubber gasket isn’t sitting as flush as before. A little more of the painted door frame and the metal stamping dimples are visible compared to before the foam treatment.

@CVP33 I’m seeing several instances where you feel your account was hacked. Tell me which messages you didn't post so I can compare the IP address with the rest of your posted messages and that of those posted by others in the community.

Or are you just kidding around?

Considering I've been publicly accused over and over of lying and am now being accused of hacking his account, I'd like to see this publicly answered. Shouldn't be very difficult to determine which posts on this page and the past were touting opposite messages for comparing against my IP address.

I solved it. I haven’t been on the forum for weeks, but it appears that my wife who drives the BMW X7 had some disparaging things to say. She’s a lawyer by profession and knows better - especially after yesterday at 2:15. In fact I really don’t see anything of concern after that time. Luckily for me I don’t have any issues with Hyundai. I believe they make amazing vehicles and I’m not exactly sure why she’s complaining as I make the payments. Also not sure why all the other owners are complaining on here.....I’ve never had any issues with them and I am considering a Genesis G90 currently. Just can’t find one with the options I want.

As for the X7, it’s already been to the dealer 3 times. No surprise. First visit to wash and detail as the dealer promised to bring in his detail guy to get everything looking new. Second time was for the complimentary oil change and today AGAIN to mount our 22” wheels. This thing has already gone to the dealer 3 times in less than 2 weeks of ownership! Crazy. And the worst part is they made my wife drive a 2 row 2020 BMW X5. Total BS! Wife is not happy. Again fellas sorry for my wife’s comments, she can get a little feisty. Luckily there’s no law against her posting on the forums, but I don’t think you’ll be hearing much from her or me anymore.
