FCA system disabled, radar blocked

I’m getting the same message and the camera is clear. It is beginning to happen more frequently and prevents me from using cruise control. I guess I need to schedule a service appointment based on the other replies to this thread.

You meant ADAPTIVE cruise control, right? You should be able to use regular cruise control, but please specify if not even that. And if you don't know how to toggle between them, you need to long-press the distance button on the steering wheel until it changes to regular CC.

It was disabling my regular cruise control too. I’m assuming because it’s a safety feature regardless of whether you are using ACC.

so have had the car since March, had one other technological issue which service took care of...forgot what it was....but just got this yesterday. "Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) system disabled. Radar blocked. Anyone have any hints?
I have a 2022 Tucson. Bought it in October 2021. Did this the other night while I was driving. No snow but there was freezing rain at the time. I imagine Ice built up on the sensor. Once it cleared after about ten minutes it was normal again. I think it’s a decent flaw in the design and plan on talking to Hyundai about it. Possibly a safety flaw as well considering it shuts down the Safety alert system for forward zones.

This isn’t unique to Hyundais. Any vehicle with a front radar sensor is going to potentially have a blockage in snow/ice/heavy rain. That’s how it is. There’s no way for it to be exposed so it can actually work yet protected so it doesn’t get covered up by the elements the car is traversing.

In such inclement weather conditions, you shouldn’t be using cruise control anyway, and need to be especially careful while driving. The systems aren’t magic.

I for one, would welcome that fault, since I have to disable that crap after every ignition cycle (turn it from 'assist', to 'warning only'). That thing can be dangerous if you need to make even a semi-aggressive move, which around here, I have to constantly do when traveling. Freaking truckers refuse to move over the right lane with medium traffic, since they don't want having to slow down waiting for their turn. So you have to constantly pass them on the right. To avoid freaking them out, I still have the courtesy to give them plenty of space, but the problem is if you have to get even moderately close to the truck in front of you before cutting in, the stupid SUV can suddenly slam on the brakes all of a sudden, basically at the same time the warning sounds. And yes, I have it on the least aggressive setting, but it's still too sensitive. My wife was sleeping, and she got freaked out big time. If it wasn't for that, it'd had been perfectly smooth and safe, just like all others I do, since I only do that when there's plenty of space to avoid accelerating rapidly. And I'm certain the ahole trucker is not going to move yet again.

lol, "my vehicle is preventing me from driving aggressively!!!"

I guess. Ha ha. The additional problem with waiting behind them is there are all kinds of crap at the side of highways, due to being a freaking desert, and windy most of the time nowadays. Even if you stay way behind, you can hear all the crap hitting your windshield, pitting it slowly, and also messing up your paint. My truck only has 8K miles now, but it already has the rock chip damage of a car with 100K miles elsewhere. And that's with passing those aholes whenever I can. They used to be MUCH frendlier, but not anymore. They don't give a crap about holding cars behind them a mile long. Plus my typical trip to see my daughters is already quite long, so with the roads chock-ful of freaking trucks, slowing you down quite a bit, I was forced to make the trip in 2 days, to be safe (at least in winter, when days are much shorter). I don't want to hit a freaking deer at the end of a long day at the wheel. Ha ha.

Thanks for all you input. I'll check both the camera and sensor. What doesn't make sense to me however how or why this would start in the middle of driving. I could almost understand when parked, we have a lot of snow and when starting the cart I would get the message. But after driving about 10-15 minutes it first pops up makes no sense. FWIW, the message did stop popping up after 2 days
Exactly what mine is doing.

I have the exact same thing, but also got tyre pressure monitoring system & master warning lights x 2

Radar (the front lower bumper sensor, one of the easiest things to have blocked in inclement weather) is one of the components of the FCA system.

From the manual: The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system is designed to help detect and monitor the vehicle ahead or help detect a pedestrian in the roadway through radar signals and camera recognition to warn the driver that a collision is imminent, and if necessary, apply emergency braking.
See now my Hyundai Kona detects the car in front moving forward but on the dashboard says the radar is blocked

That is because there are two different systems. The windshield camera (also used for lane departure) is the one that detects cars in front. And even if it wasn't, a small calibration issue wouldn't prevent the system from detecting a pretty wide vehicle in front. As for the radar sensor, if there are no signs of an impact of some kind on the radar module, or where it's mounted, then probably just an unfortunate calibration issue. But you'll have to take your Kona to a dealer for calibration. And if it's something else, then they'd be able to order right there whichever parts are needed to correct the problem. Good luck.

I just had this issue I was traveling on the highway in a snowstorm and it advised the radar was blocked when I stopped I cleaned the black rectangular box below my license plate it was covered in snow and the sensor notification went off

We did go in on April 15. They kept it overnight. They ordered the part and getting a future appointment at Sacramento Hyundai takes a long time. At first they found no stored error messages and couldn't duplicate it. Even though it happens to us all the time. I told the service advisor to drive in on the highway and I sent them the picture I took of the error. The message did pop up for them while driving on the highway. Slightly odd since we also get it driving on side streets. Still don't know why the error didn't store in the computer. I also don't know if they actually could tell something was wrong but according to the service advisor troubleshooting guidelines say to replace the front camera. That is happening tomorrow.

Thanks for asking about this. I'll try to remember to come back and post the results after a few days of driving.

did replacing the camera work?

2022 Palisade Calligraphy with 7500 miles. Radar blocked error appeared for the first time on a road trip over Memorial Day weekend. The weather was clear but hot (especially for northern Illinois) so I figured the sensor was covered with dead bugs. Went to the car wash as soon as I got home and didn’t have a repeat in the last week. Driving to work this morning in light rain, the alarm went off again and stayed on for about 20 minutes before seeming to resolve itself just a few minutes before my arrival at the office. On my afternoon drive home, I noticed my fuel economy meter was reset without me holding the “ok” button or filling the tank with gas, so I am thinking there may be a connection with the computer or some other electrical components.

My 2020 Palisade suddenly displayed the FCA error warning message on the dashboard screen after disabling Cruise Control (CC). It further stated the 'Radar was Blocked'... I thought, "...what the hell is this?..." A short time later, I was able to successfully re-engage the CC, only to have it repeat the scenario. I read posts in this forum of others experiencing this same fault; and, as recommended took the vehicle into the dealership for further diagnosis and repair. I eventually TWICE took the vehicle to the dealer and left it for the day -the first time, and the 2nd time over night. Since it was an intermittent problem, the technician sought to fully replicate the problem under "controlled conditions" before futher actions could be attempted. Topical investigation--check for stored fault codes-- was unproductive and I was sent home. The problem continued, unabated, however. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer a 2nd time, and left it overnight so that the technician could drive it more extensively. After a while the FCA/Radar Blocked warnings re-appeared for the technician. He was now a New Believer, and was motivated. I was told that the radar was located behind the lower front bumper, which needed to be removed for further inspection. I agreed. I also explained what actually did happen at home which created this problem: The vehicle gets parked in my garage and with my steel shelving rack there, it's a tight fit. I place an empty cardboard box on the floor to act as a cushion so that I don't hit the rack. Apparently, I crushed the box and caused the radar's mounting-behind the lower front bumper- to move out of alignment, thus blocking the radar. The good news is that the repair only required an adjustment...there was no physical damage. The bad news was that such "adjustments" are not covered by warranty. After paying $570.00, my lovely 2020 Palisade Limited is restored to original functionality. 😊😊😊

The pictures are an attempt to describe the intermittent sequence of events. Note the mileage readings.

This FCA sensor issue has been happening to us the past 4 months. Finally had it looked at yesterday. They told me the bracket behind the bumper was bent backward a bit causing the sensor to look downward towards the street. The only way this could have happened is if we hit something but we never have. The bumper shows no damage at all. There is no under carriage damage from a parking block or something.
Also we live in AZ, no snow here. Very little rain too. But I do Rain X the windows twice a year.
