Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

Not every Palisade has this issue. I do not. And there are many people for whom the existing fixes have resolved the issue.

While it's clear there is an issue, and that it's not fully root caused yet, this constant implication that Hyundai isn't doing anything is complete nonsense. They issued the first TSB in 4 months, starting with a population of 0 vehicles in the US. It takes time to have a big enough sample size to gather feedback from owners, not to mention get the engineering analysis done and get enough spare parts to fix cars. 3 months after the first TSB, they've decided to pull it back. Again, it takes time to get enough cars looked at, the first TSB applied, and to get feedback as to whether the fixes were successful.

All this has actually happened very quickly. If you think this is too slow, well then, with all due respect, you're not familiar with how supply chains work and how long quality analysis can take. And I suggest you go look at other manufacturers, because they're not better. They're actually worse in many cases. The 2020 Explorer launch is now a horror story, for example. There's a recent CNBC report out there on how badly Ford botched it, if you don't believe me.

It sucks if you're affected by this wind noise, and it's totally understandable if it makes you think twice before buying. Lemon laws can help you if you're at that point. But please do not buy into this propaganda that it's the end of the world, Hyundai doesn't care... etc. etc. It's obviously not the case.

And Hyundai-bashers would do well to remember that there are close to 42k Palisades now sold in the US. The population of this forum represents a very tiny fraction of that. You generally don't hear from people who have no issues, so try to keep things in perspective here. At any rate, keep calling Hyundai - it'll be far more productive than whining here (you know who you are).

Ok, but if we can't whine here, then where do you suggest we do it? No one is forcing you to open this thread. I am actually really happy that your Palisade doesn't have the issue. What is the build date if you don't mind me asking, and when did you purchase yours?

Why even respond to the commentary...just say what's on your mind about the Palisade good or bad..

I will, and I expect the same of everyone else on this owner's forum. There are more pros than cons with the Palisade by far, but the cons have to be discussed as well. All part of it.

That is speculation a fix will be here in a few months...the problem has existed for months.still no real fix.
The smart money would hold off on the purchase..or accept the fact that you may be setting yourself up fo disappointment.
Yes, "a few months" is speculation, and it may take longer. If Hyundai has to change the design of parts (as opposed to patching it with some foam, etc), especially those made by vendors, it takes a while to get that done. But I do think they will eventually fix it.

Any kind of low-tech parts made of plastic, molding, etc is likely to be made in China by contract manufacturing suppliers, and Hyundai is already having trouble getting the original designed parts from China due to coronavirus. Hyundai previously announced that production in Korea was shut down for awhile due to parts supply problems from China. Getting redesigned parts from China is probably even harder right now.

Plus the Korean production was also shut down at the Hyundai assembly plant itself for awhile due to coronavirus in Korea. So they have got some huge problems they are dealing with.

It sounds like Hyundai is trying to make some temporary fixes (foam?) until a permanent fix can be made. I also think that a decent car stereo shop could fix the problem if you gave them some info on what others have done. Many high quality car stereo installations involve adding sound absorption to the doors, and they could probably plug any gaps that are causing the noise. That might cost a couple hundred dollars. It can also be a DIY job of people are so inclined (may be some YouTube videos on that).

There's a difference between being constructive about it, and simply bashing Hyundai for the sake of it. It's funny for 5 minutes, then it gets tiresome, not mention inaccurate. And it's not just this thread - it had permeated to others, like the 2021 paint colors, for example.

I don't think I have done much bashing against Hyundai, but if there isn't a permanent fix for this problem eventually, I might have to change my tune. I still have faith they will make it right though.

I got a call back from my national case I opened with Hyundai. They said the same thing as the dealership.... "all TSB's have been suspended. They are waiting, and testing for a permanent fix before sending it out to dealerships." My dealership told me the same thing last week.

But the only thing we can all do right now, is keep opening cases if you haven't. This makes them open tickets, work on them, and call us back to report on them. ... And just wait.

Well you heard it from the horses mouth. Encouraging to hear..they admit there is a problem and appear to be searching for a permanant fix.
I assume no time frame was provided....thanks for the update..

That is fabulous information for everyone, the current owners and future owners alike. Thanks for the update. I am confident Hyundai is on the right track to a permanent fix.

I had the same feedback but they did replace the seal around my entire door. There was no noise for 2 days and then it came right back. It's getting unbearable it's so loud.

They did the same thing with mine. It went away but its starting to come back again. I can make the sound go away by pulling out the driver window seal from the inner bottom left corner driver window. Just pull out like half an inch that's tucked inside the door panel. See if that works.20200228_142923.webp

I just got off the phone with Corporate. Had a Case open regarding the wind/whistle noise. The case manager ensured me that the TSB is still valid and that any service department is obligated to conduct repairs if the issue is confirmed. That if any service dealership turn down repair or say the TSB is suspended to call back to her direct line. She offered me to take it to the dealership where I bough it from or to a closer dealership. Chose the closer dealership and have an appointment March 5th for diagnosis.
Brought my palisade to the dealer for the wind noise repair they said they fixed it took it out for a ride and there’s no difference still have the same wind noise Hyundai has no clue or what to do

Maybe the techs are just used to it, and because of that, don't have any idea what is normal at this point. They need to use a decibel meter or some other kind of sound monitoring gauge.

Just got mine back for the after TSB fix (through corporate support) sounds like they just hammered the wind channel to close the gap. Worked well on the driver side but have to bring it back for the passenger side. Still a slight whistle (although better). Sounds like this may be the new fix they are working.

"just hammered the wind channel". Please explain what that is ? If they just hammered something, or what ever they did, what did they put in writing?
Because if that is going to be the "high tech" fix several have waited for , might as well do it ourselves. There has got to be more to this story... I hope!

I don't know all technical write up (they still have my paperwork as they re keeping it open until after i test drove it). When i took it back they sent the tech out with me to test drive it and i asked him what they did this time. He said they had to take apart the door moulding, and basically used a rubber mallet to close the gap in the wind channel where the felt/rubber piece of molding is at the bottom of the window. He said that's what the corporate tech suggested for him to do. I'm thinking this is the same as what someone posted from facebook. I was worried about damage at first but its under the chrome strips around the window. Like i said it helped alot but didn't cure the passenger side. He said we can tap on it some more but there is a limit where you can close it too much.

And if you close it too much, what will happen exactly? If it is unusable, I am assuming Hyundai will buy you a completely new door. Surely the 2021's will be revised. I can't picture them having to go through this all over again with the next model year.

They generally don't wait until the model year changeover to fix stuff like that. But it can be a little tricky depending on what's involved, and depending who actually makes the part involved (Hyundai or an external vendor).

I certainly hope not, but we are probably only months away from the 2021 models to come out, so 🤷‍♂️
