Have you dealt with a "Bad Smell" in your Palisade and what year do you have?

Trying to get an idea of how many people are really dealing with the bad smell issue in their Hyundai Palisade.

I understand your concern, and have responded to your posts in other threads, but I don't think your methodology is going to get any statistically valid formation. Hyundai has already acknowledged that during a specific date range of manufacture, the headrests had a bad odor and they have secured a new vendor.

If you could get all owners to respond to your survey, and there were enough responses, it might be somewhat useful information. However, from my understanding, the odor appears to have only affected come trim levels and not others, which is not distinguished in your survey.

I would just visit a dealer first thing after they open (car doors have been closed all night), and get them to open up the car doors of a car with Napa leather (if that is what you plan on getting) and then you sit in car (and close the door immediately) and wait around in the car for a few minutes to see what you can smell.

Like to see a poll
HOW MANY ON THIS FORUM EVEN OWN A PALISADE
Those who don't own a Palisade, but are considering getting one, are 100 times more concerned about this issue than current owners.

100 times more concerned...did you draw that conclusion from a poll?

Hey Steelers
He has more posts than you do 646, doesn't own a Palisade and looks like over a hundred of the posts are about odor
Guess that is where he gets the 100 times figure.

Hi Alan, thank you so much for your reply. I'm sure you're right, that it's not a very scientific poll! And I should have asked about the trim and seats. I was hoping to get the Napa Leather in beige, which seems to be the most widely affected by the bad odor. But from what I've read from people posting, they didn't notice the bad odor for a few months. They didn't smell it immediately at the dealership.

So you are saying I am not concerned about the smell in my current pali?

Some people really have an odor problem, And they should have a concern about it.
Others who are looking to buy a Palisade should also have concerns and check on what to look for.
Those just posting about it for a year and a half and still don't own the vehicle just don't have anything better to do
The survey is a great idea.

Dealers have a tendency to not recognize any defect that a customer complains about, assuming it is covered by the warranty. That's just the way the auto business works.

The frequency of noticing the odor is dependent on a lot of things, such as warmer weather, how long the car has been sitting with the windows closed, etc. Even when it occurs, it becomes less noticeable once one has been exposed to it for awhile.

That's why I suggested you do your own testing on a vehicle that has been parked with doors closed, quickly get in and see if you can smell it. Of course, all new cars a new car smell, but obviously this odor is different.

I think you and Steelers are very concerned. Maybe I used the wrong word. What I meant is that people who are trying to decide whether to buy a new Palisade are trying to figure out whether the problem is really fixed or not on the newer units, and they need to know ASAP because they need a new vehicle.

Those who already have the problem, may be very concerned about trying to get Hyundai to fix the problem. I have previously suggested that once the odor happens, a thorough cleaning of the entire interior may ben needed to resolve the problem, even after the headrests are replaced.

Sorry for any confusion about this.

The odor (and a few other things like glass and wind noise) are the reasons why I don't own it yet. I am not going to buy a vehicle until those problems are fixed, period. I happen to be a situation where I don't need a new vehicle immediately, and I can wait.

Plus, now that the prices of the top trim levels are ridiculous (several thousand over MSRP) I am not going to purchase at that price. Due to a damaged tire on my current Hyundai Genesis, I was forced last week to buy 4 new tires (and also got 4 new TPMS units) at a cost of $1,070.00 so I even less likely to buy a new one right away unless the prices go down.

Obviously, you are an exception, and you have stated several times that you are concerned about what the odor is doing to your lungs, etc.

A lot of times, current owners don't like to talk about problems (or let others talk about them) if there is no apparent solution, because they think it will damage the resale value of their auto. So those kind of people find reasons to attack anyone who brings up those problems.

One of the reasons why I have so many posts is that people attack me for posting when I am not an owner yet, and they keep asking me when I am going to purchase a Palisade, and I try and respond to posts when possible. I have been asked at least 10 times when I am going to purchase a Palisade.

These are thinly disguised personal attacks, when they can't find any reason to question the actual content of the information I posted.

How about we get to the original posting. It is a survey to find out if you have or don't have a bad odor in your Palisade

It's an OLD issue by now. I test-drove a few Palisade Calligraphy SUVs with beige interior before buying mine, and they were sitting in 100+ temperatures, meaning the interior was easily well over 140F, and zero strange odors (just the typical new car smell). These were 2021s with 12/20+ build dates. I actually used that smell excuse to convince my wife to get the black interior instead... and it worked. Ha ha. So if somebody is still worried about that, and the AWD vibration, just get a FWD with black interior, like I did, and problem solved :).

I have yellow labradors and take them to dog shows and agility trials, so black interiors are a nightmare for me!

I've had all my headrests replaced and they still have the garlic smell. so I don't think it's just the headrests.
