Wind noise and buffering in Hyundai Palisade

Kind of funny that I had someone comment on the wind noise one day while in a parking lot, said thats the reason they didnt buy a Palisade. I asked when they were looking and they said 2020, I old them its been corrected at the dealership and my 22 has no wind noise and its everything I thought it would be. They bought an Explorer and hate it, the guy said he will revisit the Paly and possibly trade into one. Weird how many people think its an ongoing issue. Same with the stinky leather seat issue also. I have no smell but a couple years ago I guess there were issues. Glad all who had issues have them resolved.

there's a gap between the upper and lower half of the mirror for where it rotates. This could easily let air in, straight down the mirror support into the door panel.

There doesn't appear to be any sort of seal between the upper and lower halves. On my volvo, there's a seal there. Would be an easy theory to test by wrapping the gap in tape and seeing what happens.
I did that and it didn't change anything.

I
And if you close it too much, what will happen exactly? If it is unusable, I am assuming Hyundai will buy you a completely new door. Surely the 2021's will be revised. I can't picture them having to go through this all over again with the next model year.
I have 2021 Caligraphy bought in August 2020 and I also have the wind noise issues. I had it twice at the dealer, they replace the window run and other parts as per the TSB and that did not solve the wind noise.

I just bought a used 2020 Palisade Limited and it is the quietest SUV I have ever owned, and I tested it before purchasing on the highway and brought it up to 75mph no problem no loud noise. There must be a range of builds that had the issue during manufacturing, and it may be limited to those builds. This one had all the recalls performed but I don't have access to the previous owner to find out if they had the issue and had a TSB done or something.

That also depends what are you comparing it to :). And where, as it's fairly quiet in smooth asphalt, but noisy as hell on rough one. But all in all, I'd say it's probably above average for the segment.

The problem is NOT resolved. Ask my dealer and drive my 2020 Palisade.

FYI... the fix works. Make sure you push for them to do BOTH sides (driver and passenger). They only did the driver on mine and now I have to push to get the other side done.
The fix doesn’t work. Per my dealer, Hyundai has pulled the TSB and the repair parts are no longer available. I’ve personally tried to order them twice and Hyundai has cancelled the order both times.

They did resolve it and provided a TSB to detail how to fix the issue (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10189990-0001.pdf), but your car may simply have a defect that they they need to fix. You said the noise is at the back. The TSB and the issue that everyone was complaining about in this thread refer to the front doors and mirrors, not the back. Your issue sounds different.
Per my dealer, the TSB has been pulled back by Hyundai because it doesn’t work.

No they did not resolve the problem for the Palisade. Might have worked for some but not for all. I was told today at the dealership that they now have NO idea what to do next to stop the whining noise off the mirrors. Guess I will add the Hyundai to the list of cars I will never buy again. They will probably be like Mazda and say that since it is not a safety issue they give up trying to fix it.

Yeah....my lease is up in a few months and need to start looking elsewhere. They won't even let me bring it in for testing anymore. Guess with the shortage they really don't need customers, just cars that they can upcharge above list.....take it or leave it. Probably buy out the lease, sell at a premium and looking for any recommendations. If it wasn't for the road noise, it really is the best car I've ever driven. But not being able to hear anyone while driving on high speeds.... especially when it goes from asphalt to concrete is really unacceptable.

Last week I drove a new Palisade and really liked it, but then I read about wind noise on this forum. So I went back for another drive and this time took it on the interstate. It seemed as quiet as the Genesis that I wanted to trade. I picked up my wife to get her impression and she said it was quieter. I now on a 2023 palisade limited.

personally I believe it might be the mirrors causing turbulence and noise.

while I didn't hear any excessive noise IMO on my 400 mile drive back from the dealer. I did experience an issue where the windows would not go up into the track at highway speed, it bowed outward and required me to pull over on the shoulder to get it to roll up.

I had it down as I entered the highway, once I merged and was doing about 70-75mph i attempted to roll it up and experienced this issue.

back 10 or so years ago, Lexus was experiencing the noise and bowing issues on several models of their vehicles, as a fix they started including these "fins" on the cars on the headlights, taillights, and around the mirrors:

the issue was gone after that. Lexus reported that there was a 8 decibel drop in the interior cabin noise as a result of adding these "fins" they even now make replacement caps for the older vehicles affected so owners can install them to eliminate the noise. the are clip in and it takes 30 seconds to replace the original flat caps.

BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and even GM have started to incorporate similar fin designs into various areas of these vehicles to reduce cabin noise and wind turbulence.

My Genesis G80 had these as well; I never experienced and noise or window issues, the G90s did not, and many G90 people have complained about noise and the windows bowing at high speeds when attempting to roll them up.

I found some aftermarket PVC 3m stick on fins that mimic this design I am going to install and see if this helps with the window bowing issue, if there is a reduction in wind noise it is a win-win

quote from Lexus engineering:

Constrictions like the gaps between door mounted mirrors and the door frame cause air to accelerate (Bernoulli effect), meaning that the air going though that gap is even more prone to shed vortices at a frequency that we can hear. This fin acts to calm the air, forcing it in a straighter path, disrupting the vortices.
My 2021 has finally driven me to the point I need to try adding the fins. Did you get these off EBAY or Amazon? How has it worked for you? I just did another 900 mile round trip and had to put up with the whistling noise for over an hour straight.

I have had them on since that post nearly 22 months ago and have not experienced the window issue or noise issue since. $5 on ebay: 10pcs Universal Car Fairing Body Spoiler Sticker Lowering Wind Noise Reduction | eBay

here is my thread on the issue and how I fixed it:
